Dahlia Tied Top

Special Stitches

Foundation double crochet (fdc)

Ch 3, yo, insert hook in 3rd ch from hook, yo, draw up lp, yo, draw through first lp on hook (first chain made), [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 2 times (first Fdc made), *yo, insert hook under 2 lps of the chain just made, yo, draw up lp, yo, draw through first lp on hook, [yo, draw through 2 lps on hook] 2 times; rep from * for indicated number of foundation stitches.

Linked first double crochet (Linked first dc)

Pull lp on hook up to slightly taller than the normal lp, ch 1, insert hook into the bottom bump of the first ch from your hook, yo, draw up lp (2 lps on hook), insert hook into first st of the row, yo, draw up lp (3 lps on hook), [yo, draw through 2 lps] 2 times.

Broomstick Lace

Step 1: Pull ending lp up long enough to slip over broomstick needle, *insert hook into next st, pull up lp and place it onto broomstick needle, rep from * across.

Step 2: Remove broomstick lace needle from. With size E hook, working over 5 lps at a time, *insert hook into first 5 lps, yo, pull through all 5 lps working a sc to secure lps, work 5 dc in the center of the lps; rep from * across.

Flower Sash (make 2 – one in each color)

Fdc 42 (48, 51, 56, 61, 66), turn.

Row 1: Linked first dc, dc in next 5 dc, *ch 2, sk next dc, dc in next 12 dc; rep from * across, ending with ch 1, dc in last 9 (2, 5, 10, 2, 7) sts, turn.

Row 2: Linked first dc, dc in each dc across to 2 dc before first ch-2 sp, *ch 3, sk next 2 dc, sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 3, sk next 2 dc, dc in each of next 8 dc; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 3: Linked first dc, dc in each dc across to 2 dc before first ch-3 sp, *ch 3, sk next 2 dc, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, sk next 2 dc, dc in next 4 dc; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Armhole Shaping

Row 1: Ch 1, sl st in first 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 7) sts, dc in each dc to end of row, turn. (38 (44, 46, 51, 55, 59) sts at end of this row)

Row 2: Linked first dc, dc in each dc to end of row, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sl st in first 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 7) sts, dc in each dc to end of row, turn. (34 (40, 41, 46, 49, 52) sts at end of this row)

Rows 4-13 (13, 13, 17, 17, 19): Linked first dc, dc in each dc to end of row, turn.

Row 14 (14, 14, 18, 18, 20): Ch 1, sl st in first 22 (28, 29, 34, 37, 40) sts, dc in next 12 dc, turn.

Rows 15 (15, 15, 19, 19, 21)–17 (17, 18, 21, 21, 23): Linked first dc, dc in each dc to end of row. Fasten off.

Going back to the foundation stitch row, join yarn with sl st and work 4 rows of Broomstick Lace, working Broomstick Lace in sets of 5 (where last set is more or less than five, work broomstick lace as per number of loops remaining).

Fasten off.

Bodice (make 2 – one in each color)

Fdc 42 (48, 51, 56, 61, 66), turn.

Row 1: Linked first dc, dc in each dc across to end of row, turn.

Rows 2-29 (27, 27, 25, 26, 23): Linked first dc, dc in each dc across to last 14 (14, 18, 20, 20, 22) sts, leave rem 14 (14, 18, 20, 20, 22) sts unworked, turn. (28 (34, 33, 36, 41, 44) sts at end of row)

Rows 30 (28, 28, 26, 27, 24)–41 (39, 39, 37, 38, 35): Linked first dc, dc in each dc across, turn.

Row 42 (40, 40, 38, 39, 36): Ch 1, sl st in first 16 (22, 21, 24, 29, 32) sts, dc in next 12 dc, turn

Rows 43 (41, 41, 39, 40, 37) – 46 (44, 44, 42, 43, 40): Linked first dc, dc in each dc across to end of row. Fasten off.

Block both Bodice pieces and Flower Sash pieces.

Using the photo as a guide, attach Bodice and Flower Sash pieces.

Sleeves

Joining yarn with sl st to underarm of either armhole opening, Linked first dc in same st, dc in each st across, sl st in first dc of rnd.

Rows 1–36 (36, 38, 38, 39, 39): Linked first dc in same st as sl st, dc in each st across, sl st in first dc of rnd.

At end of Row 36 (36, 38, 38, 39, 39) work 2 rows of Broomstick Lace,

working Broomstick Lace in sets of 5 (where last set is more or less than five, work Broomstick Lace as per number of loops remaining), sl st into first st of the previous Broomstick Lace rnd and repeat broomstick Lace steps.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Steam Block entire garment.
