Size: About 68” long (without fringe) and 21” wide

Gauge: 4” X 4”

Tapestry Checkboard: 10 st X 9 rows

Spyke Granny: 10 st X 6 rows

Mock Cable: 11 st X 8 rows

Yarn: Cygnet Chunky #5 (100% Superior Acrylic; 100g, 156 m) 601 Soft Mint, 2.5 skeins CC1, Pink 813, 3.5 skeins CC2, Crushed Berry 766,1 skein CC3, Emerald 377,1 skein CC4, Gold 686, 1 skein CC5

Hook/Needles: US size K-10.5 (6.5 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle, measurement tape, stitch markers (optional)

Special stitches

Granny Spyke st: (Grs) This is the main stitch of the pattern: A cluster of 3 dc made in a chain space when the middle dc is made on top of the second dc from row below. Dc 1 in ch-space, dc 1 on top of dc from row below in the same ch-1 space, and dc 1 again in the same ch-1 space as first dc.

Mock Cable stitch: This is a stitch combination that will be explained in pattern instructions.

Small Puff Stitch: (Sp) This stitch contains one Single crochet stitch followed by one Treble crochet stitch.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in rows.

Ch 1 at beginning of row does not count as stitch.

Ch 3 at beginning of row does count as first st.

At all rows, the count is 50 stitches.

This pattern consists of four different stitch patterns and techniques.

Please refer to the drawing to see the sections.

Start with a foundation chain of 50+1 using CC3

Pattern

Tapestry/Checkerboard pattern section (CC3 + CC4)

For the tapestry technique, you will work one color at a time while working over unused color until it is time to change colors.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook grabbing CC4 to the back of your work and pulling it along the row, sc in next ch and across to end of the chain, ch 1 and turn.

Row 2: Using CC3, hdc 1 in first st from hook, hdc 1 in next 3 stitches, hdc 1 in next stitch but finish it with CC4 to start the next 5 stitches, hdc 1 in next 5 sts, finishing the 5th with CC3 to start the next 5 hdc stitches, continue alternating colors every 5 stitches to form a checkerboard pattern of 5 hdc stitches on each color. ch 1 and turn.Cut yarns leaving enough to weave in ends.

Row 3-7: Repeat row 2

Mock Cable section (CC5)

This stitch pattern is worked in sections of five stitches same as the first section.

 Row 1: Sc 1 in first st from hook, sc 1 in next st and across to end of row, ch 1 and turn.

Row 2: Hdc 1 in first st from hook, hdc 1 in next 4 stitches, ch 8 and slip stitch to the base of last hdc made, [hdc 1 in next 5 sts, ch 8 and slip stitch to the base of last hdc made] repeat to end of the row, finish with 5 hdc, ch 1 and turn.

Row 3: Hdc 1 in first st from hook, hdc 1 in next 3 sts, fold ch-8 from prev row from you and hdc 1 in next st, continue hdc 1 in every stitch to end of row always folding the ch-8 from you. Ch 1 and turn.

Row 4-7: Repeat Row 2-3.

Row 8: Repeat row 2.

Before starting the final row of this section, we will prepare the cables by inserting the second ch-8 into the first ch-8, then inserting the 3rd ch-8 into the 2nd, and the 4th into the 3rd, leaving the top ch-8 loop.

Row 9: Hdc 1 in first st from hook, hdc 1 in next 3 stitches, hdc 1 in next by inserting your hook through the ch-8 loop and next st together and by this securing the ch-8 to the fabric and finishing the Mock cable stitch, continue by working 1 hdc in next 4 st and securing the cable in next, across to end of row. Secure yarn and cut.

Spyke Granny section (CC1 + CC2)

This part of the Blanket Wrap consists of two sections:

First alternating between CC1 and CC2 every two rows for a total of 10 rowsstarting in row 2 and Second working 16 rows using only CC2.

Row 1: Start with CC1, ch 3, dc 1 in next st, dc 1 in every stitch to end of row, ch 3 and turn.

Row 2: (CC1) Dc 1 in first st from hook, [ch 1, skip 3 sts, dc 3 in next st] for a total of 11 times, ch 1, skip 3 st, dc 1 in next st, dc 1 in last st, ch 3 and turn.

Row 3: (CC1) [Grs in ch-1 space, ch 1] for a total of 12 times, skip 2 sts, dc 1 on top of turning ch-3, change to CC2, ch 3 and turn.

Row 4: (CC2) [Grs in ch-1 space, ch 1] to last 4 st, skip 3 sts, dc 1 on top of turning ch-3, ch 3 and turn.

Row 5: (CC2) [Grs in ch-1 space, ch 1] to last Grs from previous row, dc 1 on top of turning ch-3, change to CC1, ch 3 and turn.

Row 6-7: (CC1) Rep rows 4-5, change to CC2.

Row 8-9: (CC2) Rep rows 4-5, change to CC1.

Row 10-11: (CC1) Rep rows 4-5, change to CC2.

Now we will work with CC2 for the rest of this section.

Row 12-27: (CC2) Rep rows 4-5.

Row 28: (CC2) [Dc 1 on top of 2nd dc from prev row beneath ch-1 space, dc 1 on next 3 dcs from prev row] to end of row. This will make you a straight row of dc’s, ch 1 and turn, secure yarn and cut.

Small Puff stitch section (CC5)

Row 1: Join CC5, ch 1 and sc 1 in first st from hook, sc 1 in next st and across to end of row, ch 1 and turn.

Row 2: Sc 1 in first st from hook, tr 1 in next st, [sc 1 in next st, tr 1 in next st] to last 2 sts, sc 1 in last 2 sts, ch 1 and turn.

Row 3-4: Sc 1 in first st from hook, sc 1 in next and across to end of row, ch 1 and turn. Change to CC1.

Spyke Granny stitch section (CC1+CC2)

Repeat Previous Granny Spyke section rows 1- 28 alternating CC1 + CC2 every 2 rows after row 1.

Small Puff stitch section CC5

Repeat previous Small Puff stitch section.

Spyke Granny stitch section (CC2 and (CC1+CC2))

Repeat Granny Spyke stitch section starting with row 1 and then 15 rows using only CC2 , continue then alternating CC1 and CC2 working 2 rows with each color as you did in the first section and middle section, 11 rows, finish repeating row 28.

Mock Cable section (CC5)

Repeat Previous Mock Cable Section.

Tapestry/Checkerboard section (CC3 + CC4)

Repeat previous Tapestry Section.

Weave in ends.

  • This would look great as a blanket!! All I have to do is add 50+. With a ch 1 for turning.
