Free Crochet Ear Saver Pattern

Plus, learn how to crochet your own buttons!

In need of some buttons for your mask helpers?  No worries!  With the same yarn and hook, you can whip up a bunch of crocheted buttons too!

Skill Level:

  • Easy (basic stitches, easy stitch repeats)

Size:

  • Mask helper is 6 inches long and 1.5 inches tall
  • Buttons are 1.5 inches wide

Gauge:

  • 16 stitches and 2 rows = 4” (no blocking)

Yarn:

  • Scrubby Smoothie from Red Heart Yarns

Hook: 

  • 5 mm “I” crochet hook

Notions:

  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • 2 Buttons (if not making your own)

Abbreviations (as needed):

  • ch – chain
  • hdc-half double crochet
  • sc-single crochet

Ear Saver Pattern

Chain 20

Row 1: Work a sc in the 2nd ch from the hook.  Work a sc in each ch across.

Row 2: Ch 1 and turn.  Ch 1 and turn.  Work a sc in each st across.

Rows 3-4: repeat row 2.

Switch colors if desired for the edging.  Some stitches on the next round will be worked into the side spaces, some will be worked into the stitches along the longer edge.

Ch 2, then work 2 hdc into the first corner.  *Work a slip stitch in the next Stitch/space, then slip the next stitch/space. Work 3 hdc in the next stitch/space.  Repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch to close round.

Fasten off and weave in ends. With a matching piece of yarn, sew a button to either end.

Quick Crochet Buttons

Ch 4, then join in the furthest ch from the hook to create a ring.

Round 1: Ch 2, then work 14 hdc into the center of the ring.

Fasten off and weave in any ends that remain.  Sew to anything that needs a button!
