Baby Owl Bib

Bibs and babies go hand-in-hand, and this cute owl-themed bib is in a class of its own. Worked up in an adorable owl pattern, this little owl bib is the perfect mealtime companion for every baby.

Materials

Yarn:

Medium weight yarn Premier Home Cotton (100% cotton; 140 yards [128 meters]/80 grams): Pastel Blue (A, 1 skein), Black (B, 1 skein), White (C, 1 skein), Lime Green (D, 1 skein), Orange (E, 1 skein)
Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm) hook
Notions: 2 medium buttons, sewing needle and thread, yarn needle

Pattern

Using A, ch 23.
Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook and in each across. (22 sts)
Row 2: Turn, ch 2, working in back loop only, dc in each stitch. (22 sts)
Row 3: Turn, ch 2, working in front loop only, dc in each stitch. (22 sts)
Rows 4-8: Repeat Rows 2 and 3 ending on Row 2. (22 sts) (There will be 7 rows of exposed loops).
Row 9-17: Turn, ch 2, hdc in each stitch. (22 sts)

Strap

Rows 18-44 (can adjust length of strap here as needed by increasing or decreasing rows): Turn, ch 2, hdc 6. (6 sts)
Row 45 (Buttonhole Row): Turn, ch 2, hdc 2, ch 2, skip 2 stitches, hdc 2. (6 sts)
Row 46: Turn, ch 2, hdc in each stitch. (6 sts)
Row 47: Turn, hdc decrease, hdc 2, hdc decrease. (4 sts)
Row 48: Turn, sc decrease 2 times. (4 sts)
Row 49: Turn, sc decrease. (2 sts) Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Owl Ruffles

With Row 1 facing away from you, join A in first exposed loop on Row 2.
Row 1: Ch 1, skip 2 stitches, * 5dc in next space, skip 2 stitches, repeat from * until last stitch, 3 dc in last stitch. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
Row 2: Join yarn on first stitch to right of next exposed loop row. Ch 3, 2 dc in same stitch, * skip 2 stitches, 5dc in next stitch, repeat from * to complete row.
Rows 3-7: Join yarn on first stitch to right of next exposed loop row. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 ending on Row 1.

Eyes (Make Two)

Using B, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in first chain, join C, fasten off B, sl st to the first stitch to join. (6 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each stitch, sl st to the first stitch to join. (12 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, * sc, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat from * to complete round, sl st to the first stitch to join. (18 sts)
Rnd 4: Ch 2, * sc 2, 2 sc in next stitch, repeat from * to complete round, sl st to the first stitchto join. (24 sts) Fasten off C.
Rnd 5: Join D in any stitch. * Ch 2, sl st to next stitch, repeat from * to complete round, sl st to the first stitch join.
Using yarn needle, sew eyes onto bib.
Using yarn needle, sew in triangle nose with E.
Using sewing needle and thread, securely sew medium button onto the top back of opposite side of strap. yarn ball
