TDS (Tunisian Double stitch)

Yo, insert hook side to side under front vertical bar, yo, pull lp through, yo, pull through 2 lps on hook. The stitch has now made one new lp on the hook. Continue across row.

Return pass: Yo, pull through 1 lp, *yo, pull through 2 lps to end of row.

TSS: *Yo, pull up a lp in vertical bar; rep from * across.

Return pass: Yo, pull through 1 lp, *yo, pull through 2 lps to end of row.

FDTDC (Front Post Tunisian Double stitch)

Yo, insert hook from front to back around specified st, yo, pull through yo, pull through 2 lps.

Pattern Notes

Each row in Tunisian crochet consists of a forward pass and a return pass.

When changing colors, stop when last 2 lps are on hook, pull up lp with new color, and lp unused colors over the working yarn, ch 1, enclosing the unused color so they are in place when you need them again. Let the unused colors hang behind your work and continue.

Each pattern section is 18 rows/stripes and is about 13” long.

  • Thank you very much the beautiful Tunisian shawl’s pattern.
I always afraid make something with Tunisian stitch because the result a little too stiff. Perhaps this isn’t true only I feel it.
Wish for you a Happy New Year4

I would like to make I a suggestion. If you were to label the rows as “A pick up”; and “B work off” it might make it easier to understand, especially for a beginner. I think this would help , especially “newbies” understand that there are two parts needed to complete each row.

Hi Joan! Thank you for the suggestion! I’ve passed your idea along to the designer and she or I will be in touch if we have any other bits of advice. Thanks! – Nicola
