Boho Medallion Bag

Leather crossbody strap amps-up the eclectic vibe of this textural boho bag featuring a beaded medallion and tassels accents.

Gauge: 12 dc and 8 dc rows = 4 inches

Medium weight yarnYarn: Circulo Amigurumi Maxi (100% mercerized cotton; 125 yards [114 meters]/135 grams): 4 balls #7625  from www.circuloyarns.com/

Hook/Needles: US size H/8/5mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round from the bottom up.

Chain 3 at beginning of rounds counts as a stitch unless otherwise stated.

Pattern

Ch 35,

Rnd 1: 3 dc in back bar of 4th ch from hook (sk 3 chs counts as beg ch-3), dc in back bar of next 30 chs, 4 dc in back bar of last ch, working in back lps on opposite side of foundation ch, dc in each of next 30 chs, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (68 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, (does not count as a st), 2 fpdc around post of same place as sl st join, 2 fpdc around each of next 3 sts, fpdc around next 30 sts, 2 fpdc around each of next 4 sts, fpdc around next 30 sts, join in top of first fpdc. (76 fpdc)

Rnd 3: (Do not make a beg ch), fpdc around post of same st as join, fpdc around next st, 2 fpdc around each of next 4 sts, fpdc around next 34 sts, 2 fpdc around each of next 4 sts, fpdc around next 32 sts, join in top of first fpdc. (84 fpdc)

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in next 4 sts, fpdc around next 2 sts, [dc in next 5 sts, fpdc in next 2 sts] 11 times, join in top of beg ch-3.  (24 fpdc, 60 dc)

Rnds 5-25: Rep last rnd 21 times.

Rnd 26: Ch 3, [fpdc around next st, dc in next st] twice, fpdc around next 2 sts, *[dc in next st, fpdc around next st] twice, dc in next st, fpdc around next 2 sts, rep from * around, join in 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (48 fpdc, 36 dc)

Rnd 27: Rep rnd 26. Fasten off.

Medallion

Rnd 1: Make a magic ring, ch 1, 12 sc in ring, do not join, work rnds continuously.  (12 sc)

Rnd 2: Working in back lps of sts, sl st in first st, 2 sl st in next st, [sl st in next st, 2 sl sl in next st] around. (18 sl sts)

Rnd 3: Working in back lps of sts, sl st in each st around.

Rnd 4: Working in back lps of sts, [2 sl st in next st, sl st in next st] around. (27 sl sts)

Rnd 5: Rep rnd 4. (36 sl sts) Updated 2/7/2024

Rnd 6: Working in back lps of sts, [2 sl st in next st, sl st in next 2 sts] 8 times, sl st in last 3 sts, leaving a 2 yd tail, cut yarn. Thread 17 beads onto yarn tail. (35 sl sts).

Rnd 7: [Inserting hook from top to bottom through front lp of next st, yo, pull lp up and through lp on hook (sl st made), slide one bead up beside hook, ch 1, push bead to RS, sk next st] around, join in top of first sl st. Fasten off.

Tassels (Make 3)

Wrap one strand yarn 12 times around 4 fingers, rem from fingers. Cut a 16” strand and use first 8 inches on one end to tie a knot in the top center of tassel loops, use scissors to cut opposite end of tassel loops.

Fold ends of tassel over knot and pull remaining long end of 16” strand up through top of tassel.

Use one 12” strand to tie a knot around tassel approximately ½ “ down from top to tassel.

Use dental floss threader to thread beads on strand as follows: one cylinder, one 6mm round, one oval, one 6mm round and one cylinder onto yarn at top of tassel. Using photo as tassel placement guide, thread remaining yarn end through tapestry needle and use to sew end of strand to bottom edge of medallion where desired.

Assembly

Using photo as placement guide, use tapestry needle to attach 1 yd length of yarn to top edge on WS of medallion, rem needle and insert end through dental floss threader and use to thread four 6mm beads, rem threader and insert end through tapestry needle and through WS of 2 fpdc sts on top left side of bag, rem needle and use dental floss threader to thread four 6mm beads, rem threader and insert yarn through needle and use to sew yarn tail through WS of medallion to secure.

Use 1 strand yarn and needle to sew straight edge of each D ring to WS of bag top edge at side edges. Hook cross body strap to D rings.

    The medallion instructions in the pattern do not make sense. Stitch totals do not add up.
