The Lovestruck Purse pattern is a charming heart-shaped project that’s both delightful to create and quick to finish. Using simple yet versatile stitches like slip stitches, single crochet and half double crochet, it cleverly forms the adorable heart shape with increases and decreases. With a speedy completion time of just two hours, this pattern offers a quick and gratifying crochet session.

Materials

Yarn: Lion Brand Yarn Date Nights (82% acrylic, 18% polyester; 273 yards [250 meters] / 3.5 ounces [100 grams]): 308R Morganite (MC 2 balls)

Hook: US size K/10.5 6.5 mm

Notions: Removable stitch marker, tapestry needle, 1 15mm sew on magnetic snap, 2 ½” D rings, sewing needle, thread, 47” chain purse strap

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked as 2 heart motifs that are then joined together at the sides and bottom.

The hearts will be worked flat back and forth in rows from the bottom up. Increases and decreases are used to create the shaping of the heart.

The starting chain does not count as a stitch.

This pattern holds 2 strands of worsted weight #4 yarn together throughout. Having 2 skeins of yarn to pull from will be the easiest method or you can spilt 1 skein of yarn into 2 balls to use. Total yardage required is 200 yards.

Main Body of Heart

Create magic ring.
Row 1: Ch 1, 3 hdc into ring. (3 hdc)
Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in first, hdc in next, 2 hdc in last. (5 hdc)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in first, sl st in next, hdc in next, sl st in next, 2 hdc in last. (5 hdc, 2 sl st)

Row 4: Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in first, hdc in each across until 1 remains, 2 hdc in last. (9 hdc)  

Row 5: Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in first, sl st in next, *hdc in next, sl st in next; repeat from * across until 1 remains, 2 hdc in last. (7 hdc, 4 sl st)  

Row 6: Ch 1, turn, 2 hdc in first, hdc in each across until 1 remains, 2 hdc in last. (13 hdc) 

Row 7-12: Repeat Rows 5 and 6. (25 hdc at end of row 12)

Row 13: Ch 1, hdc in first, *sl st in next, hdc in next; repeat from * across. (13 hdc, 12 sl st)

Row 14: Ch 1, hdc in first, hdc in each across. (25 hdc)

Row 15-16: Repeat Rows 13-14.

Top Left Half of Heart

Row 1: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, hdc in next, (sl st in next, hdc in next) 4 times, sc2tog, place st marker in last st used of the sc2tog. (2 sc, 5 hdc, 4 sl st)

Row 2 (RS): Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, hdc in each across until 2 remain, sc2tog. (2 sc, 7 hdc)

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, hdc in next, (sl st in next, hdc in next) 2 times, sc2tog. (2 sc, 3 hdc, 2 sl st)

Row 4: Repeat Row 2. (2 sc, 3 hdc)

Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog, hdc in next, sc2tog. (2 sc, 1 hdc)

Do not turn after Row 5.

Sl st down side towards the center marked st, sl st in the marked st, remove st marker.

Top Right Half of Heart

Row 1: Ch 1, sc2tog in same st as sl st and next st, hdc in next, *sl st in next, hdc in next; repeat from * across until 2 remain, sc2tog. (2 sc, 5 hdc, 4 sl st)

Rows 2-5: Repeat Rows 2-5 of Top Left Half of Heart.

Do not fasten off, continue to border.

Border

Ch 1, turn, sc evenly around heart placing a sl st in the top center and 3 sc at the bottom point, join with a sl st.

Fasten off leaving an 8-inch tail which will be used to sew on a D-ring.

Follow instructions to create 1 more heart.

Do not fasten off after the border of second heart.

Joining Hearts

Place hearts together with RS facing each other. The second heart made will be on top of the first heart. With the WS of the second heart facing, the working yarn will be on top of the hump to the left, pick up working yarn. The 2 hearts will be joined by using the dc2tog stitch. The first leg of the dc2tog st will be in a border st of the back heart and the second leg will be in a border st of the top heart described as follows:

Ch 1, yo, insert hook in st across from working yarn loop in the back heart, yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, insert hook in next st of front heart, yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through 3 loops, [yo, insert hook in next st of back heart, yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, insert hook in next st of front heart, yo, pull through, yo, pull through 2 loops, yo, pull through 3 loops] around to the second hump and stop when you mirror the spot where you first joined the hearts on the first hump. Fasten off an 8-inch tail which will be used to sew on a D-ring. Turn RS out.

Finishing

Use a yarn needle and the 8-inch tails to sew on the D-ring’s parallel to the first joining st and the last joining st.

Securely weave in ends.

Magnetic Snap: With thread and needle sew each half of the magnetic snap to the inside of the purse at each center point of the heart.
