La Coeur Cowl

Cowls are definitely a great accessory in the quest to keep warm. This cowl is super easy, can be made in a weekend (or less!) and will provide wonderful warmth around neck and shoulders, thanks to the alpaca in the fiber mix.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 16” x 38” in circumference

Gauge: Approx.  10.25 sts/5.75 rows = 4” in pattern

Materials

Yarn: Bernat Alpaca (70% acrylic, 30% alpaca; 120 yards [110 meters]/100 grams): #93309 Lavender (3 skeins)
Hook: US size J/10 (6.0 mm) hook
Notions: Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

Dcflo: Double crochet in front loop only of designated st
Dtr: Double treble
Scflo: Single crochet in front loop of designated st

Special Stitches

Dtr: Yo hk 3 times, insert hk in designated st or sp, yo and pull up a lp, [yo and pull through 2 lps on hk] 4 times.

Pattern Notes

Cowl is worked flat and seamed after blocking.
Ch 3 at the beginning of any row counts as first dc.
Ch 5 at the beginning of any row counts as first dtr.

Pattern

Ch 45. Dtr in sixth ch from hk and in each ch across. Turn. (41 dtr)
Row 1 (WS): Ch 1, scflo in first dtr, *dcflo in next st, scflo in next st. Rep from * across row, ending with sc in top of initial ch 5. Turn. (21 sc, 20 dc)
Row 2 (RS): Ch 3, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc. Rep from * across row, ending with dc in final sc. Turn. (21 dc, 20 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc. Rep from * across row, ending with sc in top of initial ch 3. Turn. (21 sc, 20 dc)
Rows 4-9: Repeat rows 2 and 3 alternately 3 times.
Row 10: Ch 5, *dtr in next st and in each st across row. Turn. (41 dtr)
Work 10-row pattern until piece measures 38” from beginning, ending with a Row 9. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends; block cowl to dimensions.
With tapestry needle and ws facing, seam short ends together to form ring. Turn rs out. yarn ball
