Quinn Flannel Scarf

Quinn Flannel Scarf

This scarf features a unique tartan fabric made by utilizing color blocking and a deceptively simple surface slipped stitch design, ending in plenty of fringe. The plaid can be made with three to four colors and endless cross hatching possibilities.

Time: Weekend Project

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 12½’’ wide x 85’’ long / [32 cm wide x 216 cm long] (not including the fringe)

Gauge: 8 sts = 4’’ [10 cm] and 12 rows = 5” [12.7 cm] in sc after wet blocking

Yarn: Wool Addicts Trust (55% alpaca, 45% Merino; 82 yards [75 meters]/50 grams): #3 Light Grey (MC, 5 balls), #5 Grey (CC1, 1 ball), #64 Bordeaux (CC2, 3 balls), #94 Off White (CC3, 2 balls)

Hook: US size 12 mm

Notions: Tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Surface Slip Stitch: With RC facing, holding yarn double behind the work, insert hook from RS to WS through fabric, pull up a lp, *insert hook at desired st length from RS to WS through fabric, pull up a lp and draw through lp on hook; rep from * until desired length has been reached.

Pattern Notes

Stripe color pattern: 12 rows with MC, 4 rows with CC1, 8 rows with MC, 12 rows with CC2, 4 rows with MC, 8 rows with CC3.

Hold yarn double while working surface slip stitches.

Pattern

With MC, ch 25.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch across, turn. (25 sts)

Rows 2-204: Cont working in sc following stripe color pattern (see Notes) 4 times then work 12 rows with MC.
Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Finishing

Work surface slip st according to slipped stitch chart lengthwise along the entire scarf leaving approximately 5’’ of length for beginning and ending tails. In all end stitches on either short end where there are no tails from surface slip sts, add 2 strands of 5’’ fringe in MC. Trim ends.
