Electric Raspberry Top

Summertime fashion calls for bright and bold colors, like those featured on the Electric Raspberry Top. Worked in a solid stitch pattern on top and an open stitch pattern on the bottom half, this fun tank is sure to become a summer staple.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Sizes: S (M, L) to fit sizes 30-32” (32-34”, 36-38”)

Gauge: 5 dc = 1”

Materials

Yarn: Sunlun Fantasy Zone First Class Milk Cotton (80% Xiangjiang shag cotton, 20% milk cotton; 125 grams): #53 Brown (1 (1, 1) ball), #55 Plum (2 (2, 3) balls)
Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm) hook, or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Scissors, yarn needle

Abbreviations

V-stitch: (dc, ch 1, dc) into same stitch or space.
3dc-shell stitch: 3 dc into same stitch or space
5dc-shell stitch: 5 dc into same stitch or space. 

Pattern Notes

A chainless was used for the starting dc for every first dc of each round instead of ch 3. You can also ch 2, dc into same stitch (counted as 1st dc).
In the pattern below dc into 1st stitch for every first dc of each round is stated, so just choose your favorite technique.
Steamblock your finished project. Spread your top out to the correct dimensions without distorting the direction of the stitches.

Rnd 1: With A, ch 132, sl into 1st ch to form 1st round, crochet 132 dc around. Sl into 1st st to join. (132 sts.)
Rnd 2: Dc around. Sl into 1st st to join. (132 sts)
Rnds 3-19: Repeat Rnd 2.
Rnd 20: (3 dc across, ch 1, skip 1 st) x 33 times. Sl into 1st st to join.
Rnd 21: Dc around. Sl into 1st st to join. (132 sts)
Rnd 22: (fpdc, skip 1 st, V-stitch into next st, skip 1 st) x 33 times. Sl into 1st st to join.
Rnd 23: (fpdc, 3dc-shell stitch into next ch1-space) x 33 times. Sl into 1st st to join.
Rnd 24: (fpdc, skip 1 st, V-stitch into next st, skip 1 st) x 33 times. Sl into 1st st to join.
Rnds 25-42: Repeat Rnds 23-24 alternately.
Rnd 43: Change to B, 3 dc into 1st st, (sc into next ch1-space, 5dc-shell stitch into next st) x 32 times, sc into next ch1-space, end with 2 dc into 1st st. Sl into 1st st to join.
Fasten off, weave in ends.

Back and Straps

Using B,
Rnd 1: Inset hook into the 1st ch of the 132 chain (R1 of the top), sc around. Sl into 1st st to join. (132 sts)
Fasten off, weave in end.
Rnd 2: From the last st of R1, skip 9 sts, 48 dc across, turn.
Rnd 3: 48 dc across, turn.
Rnd 4: Repeat Rnd 3.

Shoulder Straps

Rnd 5: Dc into 1st st, skip 1 st, (V-stitch into next st, skip 2 st) twice, V-stitch into next st, skip 1 st, dc into next st, turn.
Rnd 6: Dc into 1st st, (3dc-shell stitch into next ch1-space) 3 times, dc into last st, turn.
Rnd 7: Dc into 1st st, skip 1 st, (V-stitch into next st, skip 2 st) x 2 times, V-stitch into next st, skip 1 st, dc into last st, turn.
Rnds 8-18: Repeat Rnds 6-7. Leave long end for seaming.
Repeat Rnds 5-18 at other side to make the other shoulder strap.
Turn inside out, join the straps and front side with sc or sl stitch.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Hold 2 strands of B, crochet a chain of your desirable length, thread around Rnd 20 of the top as a tiny belt around the waist.

Rnd 1: With A, ch 140, sl into 1st ch to form 1st round, crochet 140 dc around. Sl into 1st st to join. (140 sts)

Rnd 21: (3 dc across, ch 1, skip 1 st) x 35 times. Sl into 1st st to join.
Rnd 22: Dc around. Sl into 1st st to join. (140 sts)
Rnd 23: (fpdc, skip 1 st, V-stitch into next st, skip 1 st) x 35 times. Sl into 1st st to join.
Rnd 24: (fpdc, 3dc-shell stitch into next ch1-space) x 35 times. Sl into 1st st to join.
Rnd 25: (fpdc, skip 1 st, V-stitch into next st, skip 1 st) x 35 times. Sl into 1st st to join.

Rnd 3: 50 dc across, turn.

Shoulder Straps

Rnd 5: Dc into 1st st, skip 1 st, (V-stitch into next st, skip 2 st) x 2 times, V-stitch into next st, skip 1 st, dc into next st, turn.
Rnd 6: Dc into 1st st, (3dc-shell stitch into next ch1-space) x 3 times, dc into last st, turn.

    I’ve never heard of this yarn. Even Google has never heard of it. Why is there not a number identifier so we can substitute an appropriate weight yarn? In some editions of your eMagazine, you provide these number classifications of yarn. In others you do not. Why the inconsistency?
