This sweet and Red Riding Hood-esque scarf is inspired in part by the heavenly Ambrosia apple. The scarf can be worn with the hood up or down and the hood has a rounded top to create a more wearable design. Large pockets will keep hands warm, making it the perfect accessory to see you through from fall to winter.

Yarn: James C Brett Chunky with Merino (70% Acrylic, 20% Siliconized Soft Polyamide, 10% Merino Wool; 164 yards [150 meters]/100 grams): CM5 4 (balls)

Special Stitches

Reverse sc (also known at the crab stitch): Insert hook into next st to the right, yo, pull through st, yo, draw through both lps.

Pattern Notes

The scarf section is worked first horizontally along the long edge.

The hood is then worked by adding extra rows in the center of the scarf; this section is increased at the edges and decreased in the center towards the end of the hood to produce a slightly rounded shape.

The top of the hood is then seamed together using mattress stitch.

The pockets are made separately and crocheted on while adding the sc edging to the whole item.

A final edging round of reverse sc completes it.

Change to smaller hook.

Border

Note: Using smaller hook, sc border round will be used to join the pockets onto the front of the scarf. One sc will be worked in each sc, row end or starting chain around Scarf and Hood, starting in top right-hand corner of front side of first pocket and top right-hand corner of front side of scarf. Sc around edge of pockets are worked through both layers.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc around, join with sl st in first sc. (296 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, reverse sc around, join with sl st in first st.
Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.
