Skip a Beat Sweater

This sweater is a true work of heart and it’s just what you need to brighten up a wintery day. Dress it up with a fun skirt or wear it with your favorite pair of jeans for a classic look.

Size: Small (Medium, Large, Extra-Large) Finished Bust Size 41 (43, 45, 47)” / [104 (110, 114, 120) cm] to fit bust 34-36 (36-38, 38-40, 40-42)” / [86.4-91.4 (91.4-96.5, 96.5-101.6, 101.6-106.7) cm]

5-7” positive ease recommended.

Shown in size Small.

Gauge: 19 sts and 20 rows = 4” [10 cm] in patt

Materials

Yarn: Garnstudios Drops Alpaca (100% Alpaca); 182 yards [167 meters]/50 grams): 0100 Off White (A, 9 balls), 3620 Red (B, 1 ball)

Hook: US size E/4 (3.5 mm)

Notions: Removable markers, tapestry needle

Back

Ribbing

With A, ch 10.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. (9 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sctbl in each st to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 2 until Ribbing (when slightly stretched) meas 20.5 (21.5, 22.5, 23.5)” / [52 (54.5, 57, 59.5) cm], ending on a WS row. Do not fasten off. Do not turn.

Body

Next Row (WS): Ch 1, work 103 (109, 113, 119) sc evenly across long edge of Ribbing, turn.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first st, *dc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc; rep from * to end of row, working last sc in top of ch-3, turn.

Rep last 2 rows for patt until piece meas 18.5 (19, 19.5, 20)” / [47 (48, 49.5, 51) cm] from lower edge

Fasten off.

Front

Work as for Back until piece meas 17 (17.5, 18, 18.5)” / [43 (44.5, 46, 47) cm] from lower edge.

Shape Left Neck

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, work in patt across 33 (37, 39, 41) sts at neck edge, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.

Row 2 (Dec): Ch 1, sc2tog, work in patt to end of row, turn. (32 (36, 38, 40) sts)

Row 3 (Dec): Ch 1, work in patt to last 2 sts, sc2tog, turn. (31 (35, 37, 39) sts)

Rep last 2 rows twice more. (27 (30, 32, 34) sts)

Work 1 row even in patt without decreasing. (27 (31, 33, 35) sts)

Fasten off.

Shape Right Neck

With RS facing, sk center 37 (35, 35, 37) sts, join yarn with sl st to next st and work in established patt to end of row, turn.

Next Row (Dec): Ch 3, work in established patt to last 2 sts, sc2tog, turn. (32 (36, 38, 40) sts)

Next Row (Dec): Ch 1, sc2tog, work in established patt, turn. (31 (35, 37, 39) sts)

Rep last 2 rows twice more. (27 (31, 33, 35) sts)

Work 1 row even in pattern without increasing. (27 (31, 33, 35) sts)

Fasten off.

Sleeves

Ribbing

With A, ch 10.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. (9 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sctbl in each st to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 2 until Ribbing (when slightly stretched) meas 7 (8, 8.5, 9.5)” / [17.5 (20, 21.5, 24) cm], ending on a WS row. Do not fasten off. Do not turn.

Next Row (WS): Ch 1, work 41 (47, 51, 57) sc evenly across long edge of Ribbing, turn.

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, sc in first st, *dc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc; rep from * to end of row, working last sc in top of ch-3, turn.

Row 4 (Inc): Ch 1, (sc, dc) in first sc, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * to last 2 sts, sc in next dc, (dc, sc) in last sc, turn. (43 (49, 53, 59) sts)

Row 5: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *sc in next dc, dc in next sc; rep from * to end of row, turn.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc in first dc, *dc in next sc, sc in next dc; rep from * to end of row, working last sc in top of ch-3, turn.

Rep Rows 4-6 until 77 (83, 87, 93) sts rem.

Work 2 rows even in patt without increasing. (77 (83, 87, 93) sts)

Fasten off.

Collar

Ribbing

With A, ch 7.

Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to end, turn. (6 sc)

Row 2: Ch 1, sctbl in each st to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 2 until Ribbing (when slightly stretched) meas length to fit around neck edge, taking care to allow stretch in seam.

Sew in position.

Finishing

Assembly

To complete Sweater, start by making the first shoulder seam and then creating the neckline.

Next, join the second shoulder seam, attach Sleeves, and finish off by sewing up Sleeves and side edges.

  • Place Front and Back panels on top of each other, with wrong sides touching.
  • Thread needle with a length of yarn. Starting at the outside edge, sew up the left shoulder seam, side seams and Sleeves.

With right sides facing up, line Sleeves up with the sewn-together Body of Sweater. Attach Sleeves to Body, taking care not to pull the seam too tightly.

Rows 3-19: Rep Row 2. (41 sc)

Row 20: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, *sc in next sc; rep from * to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn. (43 sc)

Row 21: Ch 1, sc in each across, turn. (43 sc)

Row 22: Rep Row 21. (43 sc)

Row 23: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, *sc in next sc; rep from * to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn. (45 sc)

Shape Right Lobe

Row 1 (RS): Ch 1, patt across 24 sts, turn, leaving rem sts unworked.

Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, sc2tog, patt to last 2 sts, sc2tog, turn. (22 sts)

Rep Row 2 until 10 sts rem.

Next Row: Ch 1, sc2tog (twice), work in patt to last 4 sts, sc2tog (twice), turn. (6 sts)

Next Row: Ch 1, sc2tog across entire row. (3 sts)

Fasten off.

Shape Left Lobe

Row 1 (RS): With RS facing, join yarn with sl st to next st and work in established patt to end of row, turn. (24 sc)

Row 2 (WS): Ch 1, sc2tog, patt to last 2 sts, sc2tog, turn. (22 sts)

Rep Row 2 until 10 sts rem.

Next Row: Ch 1, sc2tog (twice), work in patt to last 4 sts, sc2tog (twice), turn. (6 sts)

Next Row: Ch 1, sc2tog across entire row. (3 sts)

Without fastening off, work sc around entire Heart, working 3 sc in bottom center point.

Fasten off.

Assembly

Sew Heart in center of Sweater.

  • Are there directions missing for the heart? I do not see row 23. No where does it show where to start decreasing the heart.
