Fairytale Fox Hooded Blanket

Add a bit of whimsy to your little one’s bedtime routine. Read a fairytale and snuggle up with the cutest hooded blanket in all the land.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 32” x 32” from tip to tip

Gauge: 13 sts and 9 rows = 4” square in dc

Materials

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Cascade 220 Superwash (100% Superwash Merino; 220 yards [200 meters]/110 grams): Dark Ginger (Color A, 5 skeins), Aran (Color B, 1 skein), Black (Color C, 1 skein)

Hook: H/8 (5.0mm)

Notions: Stitch markers (5-6), tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

The blanket is worked side to side. The border is added to finish the blanket. The hood is made separately and sewn onto one corner. The eyes, nose and ears are added last

Pattern

Blanket Base

With Color A, ch 101.

Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook, dc in next, *sc in next st, dc in next st; rep from * across row.

Rows 2-23: Turn, ch 1, *sc in next st, dc in next st; rep from * across row.

Rows 24-48: Turn, ch 3, insert hook into second chain of ch-3, pull up loop, insert hook into next st (not first), pull up a loop, finish as a double crochet (first LDC made), *insert hook into horizontal bar of completed dc, pull up a loop, insert hook into next st, pull up a loop, finish as a dc; rep from * across row.

Rows 48-71: Turn, ch 1, *sc in next st, dc in next st; rep from * across row. Do not fasten off.

Finishing

Border

Turn, ch 4 (count as first dc, ch1), *skip next st, dc in next st, ch 1; rep from * across row to corner, in corner, (work 2 dc, ch 1, work 2 dc); rep from * around, sl st to the third chain of first ch-4 to join.

Hood

With Color A, ch 2.

Row 1: Work 2 sc in first ch. (2 sts)

Row 2: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in each st. (4 sts)

Rows 3-14: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across row to last st, work 2 sc in last st. (2 sts inc’d each row)

Fasten off Color A, join Color B.

Rows 15-23: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in first st, sc in each st across row to last st, work 2 sc in last st. (2 sts inc’d each row)

Sew hood onto one corner of blanket with tapestry needle.

Eyes (make 2)

With Color C, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in first ch, sl st to the first st to join.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Nose

With Color C, ch 2.

Row 1: Work 2 sc in first ch. (2 sts)

Row 2: Turn c h1, work 2 sc in each st across row. (4 sts)

Row 3: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, work 2 sc in last st. (6 sts)

Row 4: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in first st, sc in next 4 sts, work 2 sc in last st. (8 sts)

Row 5: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in first st, sc in next 6 sts, work 2 sc in last st. (10 sts)

Rows 6-8: Turn, ch 1, sc in each st across row. (10 sts)

Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Ears (Make 2 in Color A and Color B)

Ch 2.

Row 1: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in first ch. (2 sts)

Row 2: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in each st across row. (4 sts)

Row 3: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in first st, sc in next 2 sts, work 2 sc in last st. (6 sts)

Row 4: Turn, ch 1, work 2 sc in first st, sc in next 4 sts, work 2 sc in last st. (8 sts)

Rows 5-8: Turn, ch 1, sc in each st across row.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Assembly

With Color C, sc around Color A and Color B ears to join them together.

Using tapestry needle, sew ears onto each side of the hood.

Sew nose onto bottom center of hood. Sew on eyes to finish.yarn ball
