Delilah Sweater

Delilah is a comfy, oversized sweater with basic sideways construction. Cozy yet breathable, she won’t complain about being too hot or too confined in this timeless piece. Plus, it’s perfect for both spring and fall weather alike!

Super fine weight yarnYarn: Jenny Watson BabySoft 4 ply (70% Acrylic, 30% Polyamide; 241 yards [220 meters]/50 grams): WY5 0153 (3 balls)

Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm)

Notions: Two 1 cm buttons, tapestry needle, removable stitch marker.

Special Stitches

Puff st: Yo, insert hook in desired st, yo, pull up a long lp, *yo, insert hook in same st, pull up a long lp; rep from * twice, yo, pull through all lps on hook, ch 1.

Sweater body is worked side to side and seamed at the sides.

Sweater Body (make 2)

Ch 39 (45, 51).
Row 1: Sc in each ch across, turn. (38 (44, 50) sts)

Rows 2–6: Sc in BL across, turn.

Row 7: Ch 3, sk first st, puff st in next st, *ch 1, sk 1 st, puff st in next st; rep from * across to last 2 sts, ch 1, sk 1 st, dc in last st, turn. (18 (21, 24) puff sts)

Row 8: Sc in first sc, *sc in ch-1 sp, sc on top of puff st; rep from * across, sc in top of tch, turn.

Size 6 months only

Rows 9-12: Sc in BL across, turn.

Rows 13-36: Rep Rows 7-12, 4 times.

Row 37: Rep Row 7.

Row 38-43: Sc in BL across, turn. (Do not turn for last row.)

Turn work 90 degrees and work between 38 to 40 sc sts, work sc2tog in the sc rows, and 3 sc in the dc rows, turn. (Work equal number of sts for front and back.) For next rows follow instructions for Ribbing Rows.

Size 12 months only

Rows 9-14: Sc in BL across, turn.

Rows 15-46: Rep Rows 7-14, 4 times.

Row 47: Rep Row 7.

Rows 48-53: Sc in BL across, turn. (Do not turn for last row.)

Turn work 90 degrees and work between 40 to 42 sc sts, work sc2tog in the sc rows, and 3 sc in the dc rows, turn. (Work equal number of sts for front and back.) For next rows follow instructions for Ribbing Rows.

Size 24 months only

Rows 9-16: Sc in BL across, turn.

Rows 17-56: Rep Rows 7-16 4 times.

Row 57: Rep Row 7.

Rows 58-63: Sc in BL across, turn. (Do not turn for last row.)

Turn work 90 degrees and work between 42 to 44 sc sts, work sc2tog in the sc rows, and 3 sc in the dc rows, turn. (Work equal number of sts for front and back.) For next rows follow instructions for Ribbing Rows.

Ribbing Rows

Row 1: Ch 3, dc in each sc across, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, fpdc across to last dc, dc in last dc, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, bpdc across to last dc, dc in last dc, turn.

Row 4: Rep Row 2.

Back Piece

Cont to work one more row of bpdc.

Fasten off.

Front Piece

On left side, work 10 (12, 14) bpdc.

Fasten off.

Count 10 (12, 14) sts from right side, join yarn and work 12 bpdc.

Fasten off.

Sleeves (make 2)

Ch 29 (31, 33).

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (28 (30, 32) sc)

Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each sc across, turn. (28 (30, 32) dc)

Row 3: Ch 3, 2 dc in first st, dc across to last st, 2 dc in last st, turn. (30 (32, 34) dc)

Row 4: Rep Row 3. (32 (34, 36) dc)

Row 5: Ch 3, dc in each dc across, turn.

Rep Rows 3-5 until 13 (15, 17) rows have been worked.

Rep Row 2 for 5 more rows.

Fasten off.

Sleeve Ribbing

Join yarn to starting ch.

Row 1: Ch 3, dc in each sc across, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3, *fpdc, bpdc; rep from * across to last st, turn.

Row 3: Ch 3, *bpdc, fpdc; rep from * across to last st, turn.

Rows 4-5: Rep Rows 1-2.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Right shoulder

With RS of body facing of each other, join right shoulder 12 sts with sl st.

Fasten off.

Left shoulder

Button placket

On left back, join yarn at corner and work 4 rows of sc for 12 sts.

Fasten off.

With RS facing each other, join yarn at left corner and sl st through both layers in top of last row of corresponding fpdc for five sts.

Attach two buttons evenly spaced on button placket, use fpdc spaces as buttonholes.

Joining sleeves

Fold sleeve in half, place stitch marker to mark center top of sleeve and join to shoulder.

With RS facing each other, join sleeve to body with a sl st moving from center to armhole.

Rep on other side.

Joining side seams

With RS facing each other, join yarn to bottom of body and work until bottom of sleeve.

Rep on other side.

Body Ribbing (Bottom)

Work in rnds.

Rnd 1: With RS facing, join yarn to bottom, ch 1, work sc2tog in sc rows and 3 sc in Puff st rows. Join with sl st in first ch

Rnd 2: Ch 3, fpdc across, join with sl st in 3rd ch of first dc.

Rnds 3-5: Rep Rnd 2.

Fasten off.
