Tiny Pom Scarf 

The stars of this easy scarf are the beautiful yarn and fun little poms. It works up very fast with a tall and open stitch that complements the rainbow colorway – perfect to brighten any outfit or a dreary winter day.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 7” wide x 60” long

Gauge: 4½ shells and 7 rows of stitch pattern = 4” [10 cm]

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Berroco Millefiori (50% Wool, 50% Acrylic; 186 yards [170 meters]/100 grams): #7861 Gladiolus (C1, 2 skeins)

Berroco Vintage (52% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 8% Nylon; 218 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): #51135 Shocking (C2, 1 skein)

Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm), US size F/5 (3.75 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Shell = (2 tr, ch 2, 2 tr) all in sp indicated

Puff st = (YO, insert hook in st indicated, YO, draw up a lp that is about ½” tall) 5 times, YO, pull through all 11 lps on hook

Pattern Notes

Scarf is worked back and forth in rows.

Every shell is worked while Right Side facing.

Pom pom edging is added at end around entire scarf.

Half shells at beg of row = ch 5, 2 tr

Half shells at end of row = 2 tr, ch 1, tr

Pattern

With larger hook and C1, ch 39

Row 1: Tr in 6th ch from hook, tr in same ch, ch 2, 2 tr in next ch, [sk next 3 chs, 2 tr in next ch, ch 2, 2 tr in next ch] across 6 times, sk next ch, tr in last ch. Turn. (7 shells)

Row 2: Ch 6, [sc in next ch-2 sp, ch 4] across, ending with sc in tch. Turn. (6 ch-4 sps)

Row 3: Ch 5, 2 tr in next ch-4 sp, shell in each ch-4 sp across, (2 tr, ch 1) in ch-6 sp (at end of row), tr in 5th ch of same ch-sp. Turn. (5 shells and 2 half-shells on each end)

Row 4 (WS): Ch 6, sc in next ch-2 sp, (ch 4, sc in next ch-2 sp) across, ending with ch 4, sc in tch. Turn.
Row 5 (RS): Ch 5, shell in each ch-4 sp across, shell in ch-6 sp at end of row, tr in 5th ch of same sp. Turn. (7 shells)

Row 6: Rep Row 4.

Row 7: Ch 5, 2 tr in first ch-4 sp, shell in each ch-4 sp across, (2 tr, ch 1) in ch-6 sp at end of row, tr in 5th ch of same sp. Turn. (6 shells and 2 half-shells)

Rep Rows 4-7 until piece measures 60”, approximately 89 rows total not counting last row.

Last Row: Rep Row 4.

Fasten off.

Edging

With smaller hook and C2, join with sc in first ch-4 sp on last row, *ch 9, Puff st into 3rd ch from hook, ch 1, fold puff in ½, sl st around ch, ch 6, sc in next ch-4 sp**; rep from * to ** across this short row. Now working along long side of Scarf, rep from * to **, working sc in each opening created by ch-4 sps (in between rows of shells. Rep from * to ** along other short side, working sc in spaces between each V-st. Rep from * to ** up last long side.

Fasten off.

Total poms long side: 45

Total poms short side: 7

Finishing

Weave in any rem ends.
