Special Stitches

Chainless Foundation: Ch 3, yo and insert hook into 3rd ch from hook, pull up a lp (3 lps on hook), yo and pull through first lp only (still 3 lps on hook), (yo, pull through 2 lps) 2 times – first dc completed.

For next dc, *yo and insert hook into the lps on the side of the last dc (it looks like the top of a normal crochet st of 2 legs forming a V), pull up a lp (3 lps on hook), yo and pull through first lp only (still 3 lps on hook), (yo, pull through 2 lps) 2 times; rep from * for as many dc as you need.

Linked Double Crochet (Ldc): Insert hook through horizontal bar on the post of the previous st, yo, pull up a lp, insert hook in next st, yo, pull up a lp, (yo, pull through 2 lps) 2 times.

Beginning Linked Double Crochet (BLdc): Ch 3, insert hook in 2nd ch from hook, pull up a lp, insert hook in first st, yo, pull up a lp, (yo, pull through 2 lps) 2 times.

Crossed Double Crochet (Xdc): Sk first st, dc in next st, ch 1, working in front of the dc just made, insert hook into the skipped st and work a dc.

Shell: [2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in indicated st or sp.

Pattern Notes

  • A standard double crochet can be substituted for a linked double crochet in this pattern.
  • You may wish to recount stitches at the end of each row just to ensure the number of required stitches are correct as you work.
  • You may find it useful to add a stitch marker into the first and last st of your row, moving the stitch marker up as you work.
  • The ch 3 at the beginning of a row count as the first dc, this can be substituted with a ch 2 if you have a looser tension and it produces too big a gap
  • The ch 1 at the beginning of a row does not count as a st

I have a question. I’m crocheting an Afghan with multiple Color’s. Can you tell me I start the pattern on the right side or wrong side of the pattern? I change pattern in the middle of the work. Thanks hope to hear from someone. Sorry this is not a comment but I do like the shawl.

I am making this shawl, but I am having difficulty with Row 28. I don’t have a problem with the crossed double crochet, I am having difficulty getting the pattern to come out to 80 stitches. Also a chart is mentioned in the pattern, but no chart downloaded with the pattern. Please help!????

Thank you for bringing this to our attention! The chart and key have now been added (below the photos on the right hand side of the pattern page). Take a look and see if that helps with your stitch count!
