Sweet Pea Shawl

Two staples of summer are blooming flowers and crisp, white linen. Add in a touch of vintage and you’ll have all the elements that inspired this gorgeous shawl. Light weight yarnYarn: Valley Yarns Valley Superwash DK (100% Extrafine Merino; 137 yards [125 meters]/50 grams): 009 Wild Rose (A, 6 balls), 026 White (B, 6 balls)

Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm)

Abbreviations

dc4tog: double crochet 4 stitches together

dc5tog: double crochet 5 stitches together

Pattern

Motifs (make 120)

With A, ch 10, sl st to first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3, work a dc4tog into ring, ch 4, *work dc5tog into ring, ch 4; rep from * 6 more times (8 clusters made), sl st to dc4tog to join. Fasten off A.

Rnd 2: With RS facing, attach B to any ch-4 sp, ch 2 (counts as first hdc this rnd and throughout), hdc in same ch-4 sp, ch 2, work 2 hdc in same ch-4 sp, *hdc in next  cluster st, work 2 hdc in next ch-4 sp, hdc in next cluster st, work (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in next ch-4 sp; rep from * twice more, hdc in next cluster st, work 2 hdc in next ch-4 sp, hdc in next st, sl st to beg ch-2 to join. Fasten off.

Half Motifs (make 14)

With A, ch 5, sl st to first ch to form a ring.

Rnd 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work a dc in ring, ch 4, *work dc5tog in ring, ch 4; rep from * once more, work 2 dc in ring. Fasten off A.

Rnd 2: With RS facing you, attach B to top ch of beg ch-3 from the previous rnd, ch 2, hdc in next st, work 2 hdc in next ch-4 sp, hdc in next st, work (2 hdc, ch 2, 2 hdc) in next ch-4 sp, hdc in next st, work 2 hdc in next ch-4 sp, hdc in last 2 sts. Fasten off.

Finishing

Assembly

With RS facing, join motifs according to chart using single crochet sts.

Border

Attach B at one of the corners, ch 2, work 1 row of hdc evenly spaced around the perimeter of the Shawl, working (2 hdc, 2 ch, 2 hdc) in each corner, sl st to top ch of beg ch-2 to join.

Fasten off.

Weave in all ends.
