Hayden Fringe Wrap

The Hayden Fringe Wrap is a lightweight project that’s ideal for that late summer-to-fall transition. Hayden means “heather-grown hill” and with its soft texture on one edge and big bold X texture on the other, it is sure to turn some heads.

Time: Weekend Project

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 80” x 20” suitable for any size

Gauge: 14 sts and 11 rows = 4” [10 cm] in St st after wet blocking

Materials

Light weight yarnYarn: Premier Cotton Sprout (100%Cotton; 230 yards [210 meters]/100 grams): #1149-28 Bark (MC, 6 balls), #1149-01 Cranberry (CC, 3 balls)

Hook/Needles: US size J/ 6.0 mm

Notions: tapestry needle

Special Stitches

X-stitch

Note: Work the second dc in front of first dc in each crossed pair.

Chain a multiple of 2 stitches.

Row 1: Dc in 4th chain from hook, (working in front of first st) dc in the 3rd skipped chain, *sk 1 st, dc in next st, (working in front of previous st) dc in skipped st;* repeat from * to * across.

Treble X-stitch

Note: Work the 2nd set of 3 trebles in front of the first set of 3 trebles.

Chain a multiple of 6 stitches + 1.

Row 1: Ch 2, tr in the 6th st from hook and the next 2 stitches, working in the front of 3 trs just made, tr in each of 3rd, 4th and 5th skipped chains, *sk 3 sts, 3 trs, working in the front of 3 trs just made, tr in each of 3 skipped sts;* repeat from * to * across.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked across in rows, lengthwise.

Chain 2 at beginning of row does not count as a stitch.

Ch 270.

Pattern 1

Row 1: Ch 2, dc in 4th ch from hook, (working in front of first st), dc in the last st skipped. (1 x-stitch made), * sk 1 st, dc in next, (working in front of previous st), dc in skipped st;* repeat from * to * across. (268 sts)

Row 2-3:  Turn, ch 1, sc in each st across.

Row 4: Ch 2, turn, *sk 1 st, dc in next, (working in front of previous st), dc in skipped st, * sk 1 st, dc in next, (working in front of previous st), dc in skipped st;* repeat from * to * across.

Rows 5-35: Repeat rows 2-4, ending on row 3.

Change yarn to Color 2.

Pattern 2

Row 36: Turn, ch 2, *sk 3 sts, 3 trs, working in the front of 3 trs just made, tr in each of 3 skipped sts (1 Treble X-stitch made);* repeat from * to * across, ending with dc in last st, (the last tr and dc will be in the last st).

Row 37& 38: Turn, ch 1, sk first dc, sc in each st across.

Row 39-48: Repeat rows 6-8 three times.

Fasten Off.

Fringe

Cut 10 12-inch pieces of cranberry. Fold in half and pull folded end through a large loop at end of wrap before the first Treble X. Pull ends through fold and tighten knot.

Rep in every 3rd space between Treble X-stitches.

Finishing

Block as desired.
