Mystical Meadow Shawl

Escape your hectic schedule by working up this mystical shawl. The floral motif squares are seamed together for a flowing triangular shape with delightful fringe that adds a bohemian twist.

Light weight yarn Sirdar Cotton DK (100% Cotton; 232 yards [212 meters]/100 grams): 17 Off White, 5 (6) balls

Hook: US size 7 (4.5mm)

Triple Crochet Cluster Stitch

YO twice, insert hook in next st. YO, pull through st. (YO, pull through 2 loops) twice, *YO twice, insert hook in same st, YO, pull through st, (YO, pull through 2 loops) twice; rep from * 3 more times, YO, pull through 6 loops.

Back Loop Single Crochet

Insert hook in blo of next st, YO, pull loop through st (2 loops on hook), YO, pull through 2 loops on hook.

Pattern Notes

Each motif square is worked in the round. The squares are seamed in the shape of a triangle.

Triangle motifs are worked in rows. The triangles are seamed at the top of the shawl to the last row of squares.

Square Motif [make 91 (105)]

Create magic ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc and ch 1), *dc in magic ring, ch 1; rep from * 7 more times, sl st in first st to join – 8 sts.

Rnd 2: Sl st in ch-1 sp, ch 3, trcl in same ch-1 sp, *ch 3, trcl in next ch-1 sp; rep from * 7 more times, ch 3, sl st in first trcl to join – 8 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, hdc in same st, *ch 3, tr in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, hdc in next trcl, ch 5, hdc in next trcl; rep from * 3 more times, ch 3, tr in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, hdc in next trcl, ch 5, sl st in first hdc – 12 sts.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Triangle Motif [Make 14 (15)]

Create magic ring.

Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc and ch1), *dc in magic ring, ch 1; rep from * 3 more times, dc in magic ring, turn – 5 sts.

Row 2: Ch 3, trcl in next ch-1 sp, *ch 3, trcl in next ch-1 sp; rep from * 3 more times, turn – 4 sts.

Row 3: Ch 2, tr in same st, ch 3, hdc in same st, ch 5, hdc in next trcl, ch 3, tr in next ch-3 sp, ch 3, hdc in next trcl, ch 5, hdc in next trcl, ch 3, tr in same st – 7 sts.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Shawl Assembly

With RS facing upward, arrange all Square Motifs as shown in Assembly Diagram. Whip stitch Square Motifs through the back loops of stitches (where indicated) to seam in the form of a triangle. Tr, hdc, and ch stitches all count as stitches that need to be seamed.

Where indicated, do NOT seam corners of Square Motifs. Corners consist of (ch 1, tr, ch 1) from Rnd 3 of Square Motif.

Arrange Triangle Motifs along the top of the shawl to the last row of squares with RS facing upward. Whip stitch Triangle Motifs through the back loops of stitches (where indicated) to seam. Tr, hdc and ch stitches all count as stitches that need to be seamed.

Where indicated, do NOT seam corners of triangle motifs. Corners consist of (ch 1, tr, ch 1) from Row 3 of Triangle Motif.

Border

Attach yarn in centre of Shawl on side where Triangle Motifs are seamed.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around the edge of the shawl. When you reach one of the 3 corners, (sc, ch 1, sc) in the corner st, sl st in first st of this rnd – 732 (782) sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st. blo sc in the next 732 (782) sts, when you reach one of the 3 corners, (blo sc, ch 1, blo sc) in ch-1 sp, sl st in first st of this rnd – 732 (782) sts.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Tassels

Cut 7 strands of yarn, about 12½” / [32 cm] in length. Fold the strands in half.

Knot the folded strands into one of the stitches along Rnd 2 of Border.

Repeat tassel pattern 62 (66) more times, making sure to only knot tassels onto the bottom 2 sides of the shawl, not along the top side (side seamed with Triangle Motifs).

Finishing

Block shawl to dimension. Weave in all ends. yarn ball
