Isabella Capelet

What better way to feel like a royal then with a nicely styled capelet. Make one in your favorite color for a timeless design that’s perfect for fall. Plus, it’s customizable! Depending on where you place a button or clasp, you can choose how you’d like to style your new cape.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: approx. 22” x 48”

Gauge: 13 sts and 9 rows = 4” [10 cm] in esc st

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Lion Brand Heartland (100% Acrylic; 251 yards [230 meters]/142 grams): 136-148 Badlands (3 balls)

Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle, one 2” metal clasp

Abbreviations

Inc – Increase

Esc – Extended single crochet

Esc2tog – Extended single crochet 2 stitches together

Special Stitches

Increase – (Esc, ch 1) twice in indicated st/sp.

Extended single crochet (esc) – Insert hook into indicated st, yo, pull through, yo, pull through first lp on hook, yo, pull through last 2 lps on hook.

Extended single crochet 2 stitches together (esc2tog) – (Insert hook into next st, yo, pull through, yo, pull through first lp on hook) 2 times, yo, pull through 3 lps on hook.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked back and forth in rows, top down with several increases added in each row. This is not worked circular or in the round.

Pattern

Ch 2.

Row 1: (Esc, ch 1) 3 times in 2nd ch from hook, esc in same ch, turn. (4 esc, 3 ch-1 sp)

Row 2: Ch 1, (esc, ch 1) in first st, *(inc in next ch-1 sp) 3 times, esc in last st, turn.

Row 3: Ch 1, (esc, ch 1) in first st and next ch-1 sp, *inc in next ch-1 sp, (esc, ch 1) in next ch-1 sp; rep from * twice more, esc in last st, turn.

Rows 4-37: Ch 1, (esc, ch 1) in first st, *(esc, ch 1) in each ch-1 sp until you reach the inc from previous row, inc in next ch-1 sp of the inc from previous row; rep from * twice more, (esc, ch 1) in each ch-1 sp until you reach the last st, esc in last st, turn.

Rows 38-42: Ch 1, esc2tog in first st and ch-1 sp, ch 1, *(esc, ch 1) in each ch-1 sp until you reach the inc from previous row, inc in next ch-1 sp of the inc from previous row; rep from * twice more, (esc, ch 1) in each ch-1 sp until you reach the last ch-1 sp, esc2tog in last ch-1 sp and last st, turn.

Rows 43-47: Ch 1, esc2tog in first st and ch-1 sp, ch 1, (esc, ch 1) in each ch-1 sp until you reach the last ch-1 sp, esc2tog in last ch-1 sp and last st, turn.

Row 48: Ch 1, esc2tog in first st and ch-1 sp, ch 1, (dc, ch 1) in each ch-1 sp until you reach the last ch-1 sp, esc2tog in last ch-1 sp and last st, turn.

Row 49: Ch 1, sc in each st and ch-1 sp across.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends. Place and attach clasp.

Optional: Fold the top edge of the capelet down 2” and sew to create a collar affect.

    Before I begin a project, I want to know what the finished shape should be. Does this cape have two equal edges that can be fastened at the neck?
