Gauge: 5 shells and 11 rows = 4” [10 cm] in patt st
Yarn: Premier Yarns Everyday Worsted (100% Acrylic; 203 yards [186 meters]/113 grams): Color #100-51 Spa 1 ball
Hook: US size H/8 (5.00 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Tapestry needle, removable stitch marker
Shell = (1 sc, ch 1, 2 sc) in same st
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (25 sc)
Row 2: Shell in first st, *sk 2 sc, shell in next st; rep from * across, ch 1, turn. (9 shells)
Row 3: Sk 2 sc, shell in next ch-1 sp, *sk 3 sc, shell in next ch-1 sp; rep from * across, ch 1, turn.
Rep Row 3 until work meas 5”, place marker at beg and end of that row.
Rep Row 3 for 2” more, place marker at beg and end of that row.
Rep Row 3 until work meas 16” total.
Final Row: Sk 2 sc, 3 sc in next ch-1 sp, *sk 3 sc, 3 sc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * across.
With RS facing, orient work so that you can work along the side of Bag Body.
Row 1: Work 2 shells evenly spaced between markers, sl st in next turning ch of Body piece after the marker, turn.
Row 2: Sk 2 sc, shell in next ch-1 sp, sk 3 sc, shell in next ch-1 sp, sl st in next turning ch of Body piece, after the marker, turn.
Row 3: Sk 2 sc, shell in next ch-1 sp, sk 3 sc, shell in next ch-1 sp, sl st in next available turning ch of Body piece.
Rep Row 3 until there are no more turning chains to join into on short side of Bag Body.
Next Row: Sk 2 sc, shell in next ch-1 sp, sk 3 sc, shell in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, turn.
Rep last row until piece meas 18” from bottom of bag. Eliminate ch-1, turn on final row.
Rep instructions for First Half on opposite side of bag.
Row 1: Dc in 5th ch from hook (skipped 4 ch counts as dc, ch 1), *ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch; rep from * to end, ch 4 (count as first dc, ch 1), turn.
Row 2: Dc in next dc, *ch 1, dc in next dc; rep from * to end, ch 4, turn.
Rows 3-10: Rep Row 2. Do not ch 4 at end of last row.
Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of next 3 ch, ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn. (4 hdc)
Row 2: Hdc in each hdc across, ch 2, turn.
Rep Row 2 until piece meas 3.5”. Do not ch 4 at end of last row.
Wrap Bow Band around center of Bow piece and sew first row to last row, gathering the center of the bow.
Stitch assembled Bow into place on flap, securing the Bow Band securely and tacking the upper corners of the bow as shown in photo.
Sew to halves of Strap together.
Weave in all ends.
I’m having trouble understanding the strap instructions. The strap attached to the body of the purse makes sense but how do you get the strap on the shoulder.
