Adella Half Circle Shawl

Adella is a beautiful half circle shawl that is worked from top down. In fact, it is more of a three-quarter shawl which will stay on the shoulder because of the shape. To create an eye-pleasing look, popcorns have been added at points of increases every other row until shawl is at the appropriate length. The bottom edge is a row of popcorns and to complete the look.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 46” length x 23” depth

Gauge: 9 dc = 4” [10 cm] in pattern stitch after wet blocking

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Red Heart Chic Sheep (100% Wool; 186 yards [170 meters]/100 grams): 5632 Polo (3 balls)

Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle. 

Special Stitches

V-stitch: (Dc, ch 3, dc) in next ch-sp.

Popcorn stitch: Work 5 dc in same sp, drop the hook from lp, insert hook from front to back under the 2 lps of the first dc in the group, grab the dropped lp, pull it through stitch.

Popcorn V-stitch: (popcorn, ch 3, popcorn) in the next v-stitch.

Pattern Notes

Ch 4 at the beginning of each row count as dc, ch 1.

Pattern

Make a slip-knot.

Row 1 (WS): Ch 4, (dc, ch 1) 8 times in slip-knot, dc in slip-knot, turn. (10 dc)

Pull the end of the yarn to tighten the slip-knot. Secure.

Row 2 (RS): Ch 4, (dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) twice, (v-stitch in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) 3 times, dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch, turn. (14 dc)

Row 3: Ch 4, v-stitch in next ch-sp, [(ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp) twice, ch 1, v-stitch in next v-stitch] 3 times, (ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp) twice, ch 1, v-stitch in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch, turn. (20 dc)

Row 4: Ch 4, [popcorn v-stitch in next v-stitch, ch 1, *dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; rep from * until you reach next v-stitch] 4 times, popcorn v-stitch in next v-stitch, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch, turn.

Row 5: Ch 4, [v-stitch in next popcorn v-stitch, ch 1, *dc in next ch-1 sp; rep from * until you reach next popcorn v-stitch] 4 times, ch 1, dc in 3rd ch, turn.

Rows 6-35: Rep Rows 4-5, 15 times.

Row 36: Rep Row 4.

Row 37: *Ch 3, (sc in next ch-sp) twice; rep from * to end, turn.

Row 38: Ch 3, *popcorn stitch in next ch-sp, ch 5; rep from *, ending with popcorn stitch.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.

Block shawl to size.

      Hi there, I’m not quite sure I understand what you are saying, as all of our patterns are written patterns. Are you asking if we have charts for our patterns? If so, sometimes we do have charts it just depends on what’s necessary for the pattern or if the designer chooses to provide additional information in a chart. I hope this helps! – Nicola, Editor

    Absolutely. Just continue in pattern and when you feel it is the right length, add the edging.
