Captain Cutie Boat Shoes

Set sail for some seriously cute style with comfy baby shoes inspired by popular adult and kid boat shoes. This pattern is worked with a double sole, contrasting color stitching, and a simple bow to make sure that baby can enjoy a fun and fashionable summer day.

Size: 0-6 (6-12) months finished sole length to fit 3½ (4)”

Gauge: 18 sts and 20 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Sc

Materials

Medium weight yarnYarn: Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton (100% Cotton; 186 yards [170 meters]/100 grams): 178 Jade (MC), 1 ball; 98 Ecru (CC) 1 ball.

Hook: US size G/6 (4.0 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle; stitch markers

Pattern Notes

Rounds are not joined unless noted.  Place stitch marker in first st of each round to keep track.  If only one number is given that number applies to both sizes.

To work an invisible join when joining sc: Cut yarn and pull through center of last st made (do NOT fasten off the regular way). Insert hook from right to left in 2nd st to left and pull yarn through. Insert hook from right to left in the middle of the last st made (the one you pulled the yarn through initially) and pull yarn down through the middle of this stitch.

To work an invisible join when joining slip sts: Cut yarn and pull through center of last st made (do NOT fasten off the regular way). Insert hook from right to left under both loops of next slip st to the left and pull yarn through. Insert hook from right to left in the center of the last slip st and pull yarn down through center of last slip st.

Pattern

Sole (make 2 of each color)

Ch 8 (10).
Row 1: Work 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 (3) sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 1 (2) sts, 7 dc in last ch. Working on opposite side of ch, dc in next 1 (2) sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 2 (3) sts – 20 (24) sts.

Row 2: Work 2 sc in next 3 sts, sc in next 6 (8) sts, 2 sc in next 5 sts, sc in next 6 (8) sts – 28 (32) sts.

Row 3: *Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * twice more, sc in next 6 (8) sts, (sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) 5 more times, sc in next 6 (8) sts – 36 (40) sts.

Row 4: *Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * twice more, sc in each st to end – 39 (43) sts.

Make an invisible join. Weave in ends.

Join Soles

Holding 2 Soles together (one of each color) with RS facing out and CC on top, join MC in any st, going through both soles. Sl st around edge to join soles. Make invisible join. Weave in ends.

Body

With MC, join at center heel st.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each sl st, join to first sc with sl st – 39 (43) sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in next 11 (13) sts, *sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog; rep from * 3 more times, sc in next 12 (14) sts, join to first sc with sl st – 35 (39) sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in next st, sc2tog, sc in next 9 (11) sts, *sc in next st, sc2tog; rep from * 3 more times, sc in next 8 (10) sts, sc2tog, sc in next st, join to first sc with sl st – 29 (33) sts.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in each st, join to first sc with sl st.

Make invisible join. Weave in ends.

Tongue

With MC, ch 4 (5).

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn – 3 (4) sts.

Row 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 1 (2) sts, 2 sc in last st, turn – 5 (6) sts.

Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in next 3 (4) sts, 2 sc in last st, turn – 7 (8) sts.

Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 3 (4) sts, sc2tog, turn – 5 (6) sts.

Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 1 (2) sts, sc2tog, turn – 3 (4) sts.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Finishing

Leaving a long tail, use CC to join Tongue to front of shoe using sl st. Use long tail ends to weave in and out of back of shoe as seen in photos, then bring tail ends through Tongue and tie in a bow.
