Add a pop of sassy summer color to your little one’s wardrobe with these adorable flower-motif sandals. With a snug but comfy fit, those tiny tootsies will be ready for all the season’s firsts, from picnics to poolside. This pattern is worked in the round from bottom to top and sized for zero to six month olds, with adjustments for ages six months to a year.

Light weight yarn Garnstudio Drops Muskat (100% Cotton; 109 yards [100 meters]/50 grams): 18 White (A), 1 ball; 29 Old Pink (B), 1 ball; 30 Vanilla Yellow (C), 1 ball

Hook: US size E/4 (3.5 mm)

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round from the bottom to top. A flower motif will be seamed to the front of each sandal.

Pattern

Sole (make 4 total; 2 with A and 2 with B)

With A, ch 11 (13).

Rnd 1: Work 2 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, work 5 hdc in next st, working on the opposite side of foundation chain, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, work 3 hdc in last st. Do not sl st in first hdc of this rnd – 26 (30) sts.

Rnd 2: Beg in first st from the previous rnd, work 2 hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, work 2 hdc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, work 2 hdc in next 3 sts. Do not sl st in 1st hdc of this rnd – 36 (40) sts.

Rnd 3: Beg in first st from the previous rnd, (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st) twice, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st) 5 times, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, (2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st) 3 times, sl st in first st of this rnd – 46 (50) sts.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

With A, repeat Sole once more.

With B, repeat Sole twice.

(With WS facing inside, put together one Sole with A and one Sole with B sole) twice.

Join both Soles using sl st around, working in all four loops (back and front) – 46 (50) sl sts.

Color B is the bottom of the sole and A is the inside of the sole.

Heel

Note: For the Left Sandal, work the first row from the outside of your work, and for the Right Sandal work the first row from the inside of your work.

Row 1: With C, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 18 (20) sts across the back of Sole, turn – 19 (21) sts.

Rows 2-8 (9): Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 18 (20) sts, turn.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Heel Border

Attach B to the RS of the Heel in the bottom stitch.

Row 1: Sc around the edge of the Heel, working (sc, ch 1, sc) in the corner sts.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Flower Motif (make 2)

With B, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 12 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in first st of this rnd – 12 sts.

Row 2: Ch 6, sk 3 (4) sts from start of Row 1 of Heel of sandal, sl st in next st of Sole (working only into B Sole loops), sc in first ch from hook, hdc in 2nd  ch, dc in 3rd ch, tr in 4th and 5th ch, dc in 6th ch (this creates a petal), sk 1 st, sl st in next st, *ch 6, sk next 4 sts of Sole, sl st in next st of Sole (working in B Sole loops only), sc in first ch from hook, hdc in 2nd  ch, dc in 3rd ch, tr in 4th and 5th ch, dc in 6th ch (this creates a petal), sk 1 st, sl st in next st; rep from * 3 more times – 5 petals.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Center of Flower (make 2)

With C, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 12 hdc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in first st of this rnd – 12 sts.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Sandal Strap

Attach B to top left corner of Heel.

Row 1: Ch 8, sl st in 12th st of Rnd 1 of Flower Motif, ch 8, sl st in top right corner of heel.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Finishing

Sew Center of Flower to Rnd 1 of Flower Motif.

Weave in all ends. yarn ball
