Summer Romance Headband

Warm weather, blooming flowers, and summer wedding invitations—love is definitely in the air this time of year! Complete your special occasion look with a romantic and feminine blue halo of flowers. This piece is worked in the round and can be adjusted to fit any size, from children to adults.

Shown in Adult size.

Gauge: 18 sts and 9 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Dc using larger hook.

Materials

Yarn:

Light weight yarn Cascade Yarns Ultra Pima (100% Cotton; 218 yards [200 meters]/100 grams): 3805 Colony Blue (A), 1 ball; 3801 Silver (B), 1 ball; 3727 Sky Blue (C), 1 ball

Hook: UK size 11 (3.0 mm); US size E/4 (3.5mm)

The headband is worked in the round. The flowers and leaves are worked in the round separately, and seamed to the front of the headband.

With smaller hook and B, ch 78 (84, 90), join with sl st in first ch.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc and ch 1), (dc, ch 1, dc) in same ch, sk next 2 ch, sl st in next ch, sk next 2 ch, *(dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, dc) in next ch, sk next 2 ch, sl st in next ch, sk next 2 ch; rep from * 11 (12, 13) more times, (dc, ch 1, dc, ch 1) in first ch of this rnd, sl st in first st of this rnd – 13 (14, 15) Scallops.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Note: Begin working on the opposite side of foundation chain.

Leaf (Make 10)

With larger hook and B, ch 4.

Rnd 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in next ch, (hdc, sc) in next ch, ch 2, begin working on the opposite side of foundation chain, (sc, hdc) in next ch, dc in next ch, (dc, ch 1, sl st) in next ch.

Fasten off. Weave in loose ends.

Flower

With larger hook, ch 2.

Rnd 1: Work 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sl st in first st of this rnd, but only through the front loop – 6 sts.

Rnd 2: (Sc, ch 1, sc, sl st) in first st in the front loop only, *(sc, ch 1, sc, sl st) in next st in the front loop only; rep from * 3 more times, (sc, ch 1, sc) in next s in the front loop only, sl st in first st of Rnd 1 in the back loop only – 6 petals.

Rnd 3: *Ch 2, sl st in next st of Rnd 1 in the back loop only; rep from * 4 more times, ch 2, sl st in first ch-2 loop of Rnd 3 – 6 ch loops.

Rnd 4: Change color, (ch 1, 4 hdc, ch 1, sl st) in first ch-2 loop of Rnd 3, *(sl st, ch 1, 4 hdc, ch 1, sl st) in next ch-2 loop of Rnd 3; rep from * 4 more times, ch 2, sl st in 3rd hdc at the back of first petal of Rnd 4 – 6 petals.

Rnd 5: Ch 3, sl st in 3rd hdc at the back of 2nd petal of Rnd 4, *ch 3, sl st in 3rd hdc at the back of the next petal of Rnd 4; rep from * 3 more times, ch 3, sl st in first ch-3 loop of Rnd 5 – 6 loops.

Finishing

Arrange the Flowers spacing evenly across the front of the Headband (order as follows: Flower 1, Flower 2, Flower 1, Flower 2, Flower 1). Sew all the Flowers in place.

Arrange the Leaves across the front of the Headband, around the Flowers. Sew all the Leaves in place.

Wet block Headband to size and shape. Weave in all ends.
