When you decide it’s time for a quick and spontaneous vacation, you need a tote that can stand up to the challenge. Roomy and beautifully striped, this bag is the ideal travel companion. Plus, since it’s quick to crochet, you can whip it up easily while planning all the stops on your trip.

Gauge: 16 sts and 18 rows = 4” (10 cm) in established pattern. Exact tension is not essential for this pattern.

Medium weight yarn Lily Sugar ‘n Cream (100% Cotton; 120 yards [110 meters]/71 grams): 84 Sage green (Color A), 2 balls; 42 Tea Rose (Color B), 3 balls; 1215 Robins Egg (Color C), 2 balls

Hook: US size H/8 (5 mm)

Notions: Removable markers; tapestry needle

With Color A, make a magic circle, work 8 sc in circle, pull tight to tighten.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around – 16 sts.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc in next st, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 24 sts.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 32 sts.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 40 sts.

Rnd 19: Ch 1, sc in next 17 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 152 sts.

Rnd 20: Ch 1, sc in next 18 sts, 2 sc in next st; rep from * around – 160 sts.

Rnds 21-22: Ch 1, sc in each st around – 160 sts.

Rnds 23-24: With Color C, ch 1, sc in each st around.

Rnds 25-26: With Color A, ch 1, sc in each st around.

Rnds 29-34: With Color B, ch 1, sc in each st around.

Rnd 54: Ch 1, sc in each st around – 134 sts.

Rnd 55 (Dec): Ch 1, *sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sc; rep from * around to last 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts – 112 sts.

Rnd 56: Ch 1, sc in each st around – 112 sts.

Rnd 57: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 sts, sc2tog over next 2 sts; rep from * around to last 2 sts, sc in last 2 sts – 90 sts.

Rnd 56: Ch 1, sc in each st around – 90 sts.

Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Handles (make 2)

With Color B, ch 91,

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn – 90 sts.

Row 2: With Color C, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn – 90 sts.

Row 3: With Color A, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn – 90 sts.

Row 4: With Color C, rep Row 2.

Row 5: With Color B, rep Row 2.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Sew handles on bag.
