Sailor Sweater

Nautical blues and grays make this toddler sweater a summer must. Set sail with this pattern and you’ll be done crocheting it in no time at all.

Pattern Notes

Pattern is worked in ABC Fashion, meaning one row of color A, change to color B at the end of the row, then working color B for one row, change to color C at the end of that row, then working color C for one row, change to color A at the end of that row. This means that you never cut the yarn. This type of patterning allows you to always change color at the end of the row and pick up the correct next color when you complete the row.

You will always work the colors as A, B, C, A, B, C, etc.

You will ignore the turning chain EXCEPT for when indicated in the pattern.

Weave in all ends.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams.

Hip Ribbing

Rnd 1: With RS facing and smaller hook, evenly space 128 (152, 184, 208) sc around bottom of sweater, join with sl st. (128 (152, 184, 208) sc)

Note: Do not turn now and throughout.

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), dc in each sc around, join with sl st in top of ch-3 turning ch. (128 (152, 184, 208) dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, FPdc around next dc, *sc in top of next dc, FPdc around next dc; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of first sc. (64 (76, 92, 104) dc, 64 (76, 92, 104 sc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and in each st around, join with sl st in top of first sc. (128 (152, 184, 208) sc)

Sleeve Ribbing (work on both sleeves)

Rnd 1: With RS facing and smaller hook, evenly space 62 sc around sleeve opening, join with sl st. (62 sc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each sc around, join with sl st in top of ch-3 turning ch. (62 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st as join, FPdc around next dc, *sc in top of next dc, FPdc around next dc; rep from * around, join with sl st in top of first sc. (31 dc, 31 sc)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st as join and in each st around, join with sl st in top of first sc. (62 sc)

Fasten off.

Neck Edging

Row 1: With smaller hook and RS facing, evenly space 96 sc from edge of front around the back to the other side, leaving the center stitches in from edge unworked, ch 1, turn. (96 sc)

Rows 2-5: Sc in each sc across row, ch 1, turn.

Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew the loose, short ends of the edging in place at the center unworked stitches.  Use photo for placement.

Weave in all ends. Block to size.
