Dizzy Dino Hat & Arm Warmers

Every child wants to be a dinosaur! This project that works up quickly so you can make several in a variety of colors for every little dinosaur in your life.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 18” head circumference and 6” arm length

Gauge: 13 hdc and 10 rnds = 4” [10 cm]

Yarn:

Medium Weight Yarn Red Heart Super Saver (100% Acrylic; 364 yards [333meters]/198 grams): Spring Green (MC), 1 skein; Shocking Pink (CC), 1 skein

Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle

Abbreviations

Single crochet 2 together (sc2tog): Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop (2 loops on hook), insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Single crochet 3 together (sc3tog): (Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and draw up a loop) 3 times, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Pattern Notes

Ch 2 counts as hdc unless otherwise stated.

Hat Pattern

With MC, ch 3.
Rnd 1: Work 9 hdc in 3rd ch from hook, sl st to join – 10 hdc.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st, 2 hdc in each st around, sl st to join – 20 hdc.
Rnd 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st; rep from * around, sl st to join – 30 hdc.
Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts; rep from * around, sl st to join – 40 hdc
Rnd 5: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 3 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 3 sts; rep from * around, sl st to join – 50 hdc.
Rnd 6: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next 4 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 4 sts; rep from * around, sl st to join – 60 hdc.
Rnds 7-17: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join.
Rnd 18: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around, sl st to join.

Fasten off.

Spikes

Lay hat flat. The top edge of the fold created is the placement of the Spikes. With CC, and working around posts of sts in rnds, join to hdc of Rnd 17.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same place, (sc around hdc in next rnd) 5 times, turn – 6 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc2tog twice, sc in last st, turn – 2 sc, 2 sc2tog.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st, turn – 4 sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc2tog, sc in last st, turn – 2 sc, 1 sc2tog.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st, turn – 3 sc.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc3tog, turn.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in only 1 st, sl st in the side of each row to Row 1, sl st around next hdc of next rnd of hat.

Rep Row 1-7 five more times. (Note that over the crown that you will work more than one sc in the rounds closest to the top.)

Leave any remaining rounds unworked, this is the front of the hat. Fasten off.

Sleeves Pattern (make 2)

Cuff

Ch 5.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across row, turn.
Rows 2-22: Ch 1, sc in back loop of same st and each st across row, turn – 4 sc.

Arms

Rnd 1: Ch 2, working in the edges of the Cuff rows, hdc 27 sts evenly around, sl st to join – 28 hdc.
Rnds 2-6: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join.
Rnds 7-10: Ch 2, sc2tog, hdc in rem sts around, sl st to join – 24 hdc.

Rnds 11-12: Ch 2, hdc in each st around, sl st to join.

Thumb loop

Ch 14, sl st to st at base of ch. Fasten off.

Sleeve Spikes

Join CC on opposite side of thumb loop and work around posts of hdc rnds and the front loops of Cuff rows.

Row 1: Ch 1, sc in same place, (sc around hdc in next round) 5 times, turn – 6 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc2tog twice, sc in last st, turn – 2 sc, 2 sc2tog.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st, turn – 4 sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc2tog, sc in last st, turn – 2 sc, 1 sc2tog.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each st, turn – 3 sc.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc3tog, turn.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc in only 1 st, sl st in the side of each row to Row 1, sl st around next hdc of next rd of arm.

Rep Row 1-7 twice more. Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in all ends.yarn ball
