Aster Hat

Aster is worked top down in the round for a quick and easy hat that looks good on everyone. The texture is eye-catching, cozy and makes for a subtle addition any man’s winter wardrobe.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 22” / [56 cm] circumference x 9” / [23 cm] height

Gauge: 12 sts and 7 rows = 4” [10 cm]

Materials

Yarn:

Berroco Yarns Vintage Chunky (52% Acrylic, 40% Wool, 8% Nylon; 136 yards [125 meters]/100 grams): #6199 Sage (1 skeins)

Hook: US size I/9 (5.5 mm)

Notions: Removable markers, tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Magic Ring

Stacked dc (stacked double crochet): Sc in indicated st, insert hook behind leftmost vertical bar of sc just made, pull up a loop, yo, draw through 2 loops on hook.

Pattern Notes

Hat is worked top down in spiral rounds without joining with the right side always facing.

Take time to save time. Stitch and wash a gauge swatch in the same manner you will be using for your garment to ensure proper measurements.

Replace stacked dc with traditional ch 3 or ch 4 if desired.

Pattern

Rnd 1 (RS): Magic ring, work 16 dc around ring, pull tight, do not join, do not turn. (16 dc)

Rnd 2: Stacked dc in first dc, fpdc in same dc as just worked into, *(dc, fpdc) in next dc; rep from * around, do not join, do not turn. (32 dc)

Rnd 3: Stacked dc in first dc, fpdc in next dc, *dc in next dc, fpdc in next dc; rep from * to end, do not join, do not turn.

Rnd 4: Stacked dc in first dc, fpdc in same dc as just worked into, *(dc, fpdc) in next dc; rep from * around, do not join, do not turn. (64 dc)

Rnds 5-15: Rep Row 3.

Rnd 16: Rep Row 3, sl st to first dc of row to join.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends.

Lightly wet block or steam for best results.
