Yarn: Tahki Stacy Charles, Inc. Cotton Classic (100% mercerized cotton; 108 yards [100 meters]/50 grams): #3003 Linen White (1 hank), #3532 Pale Lemon Yellow (1 hank), #3783 Bright Teal (1 hank)
Hooks: US size F/5 (3.75 mm) hook, steel hook size 6 (1.8 mm)
Notions: Three slim, space-saving shirt hangers; size 3 round Japanese seed beads (10 grams per bag) in metallic silver, gold-lined transparent light amber and silver-lined honeydew; Organdy ribbon: 7/8” [22.0 mm] wide – 2 feet [61 cm] in champagne, ivory and neon green; split ring stitch markers (at least twelve); tapestry needle
Hanger cover pattern is worked, then pinned onto hanger with split stitch markers and slip stitch seamed across top of hanger, adding beads along seam. Bow is then tied to center of hanger around hook.
Ch 2 at beginning of each row does not count as initial hdc.
3 Hdc cl is worked as follows: (yarn over, insert hk in designated sp or st, pull up a lp) 3 times, yarn over and pull through all 7 lps on hk.
With larger hk, ch 95.
Row 1: Yarn over, insert hk in 3rd ch from hk, pull up a lp, yarn over, insert hk in next ch, pull up a lp, yarn over and pull through all 5 lps on hk (counts as 3 hdc cl), ch 1, *work 3 hdc cl over st just worked and next two chs as follows: yarn over, insert hk in st just made, pull up a lp, (yarn over, insert hk in next ch, pull up a lp) twice, yarn over and pull through all 7 lps on hk, ch 1. Rep from * across. Turn. (47 3 hdc cls)
Row 2: Ch 2, 3 hdc cl in first ch 1 sp, hdc cl, ch-1 sp, ch 1, *3 hdc cl worked in st just made and next two sts, ch 1. Rep from * across. (47 3- hdc cls)
Rows 3-6: Repeat row 2. Fasten off.
Working Additional Rows to Cover Middle of Hanger
Skipping first 18 3 hdc cls, with larger hk, join yarn with sl st in next 3 hdc cl. Ch 1, work 3 hdc cl in joining sp and next two sts, ch 1, *3 hdc cl, ch 1. Rep from * 9 times. Turn. (11 3-hdc cls)
Next Row: Sl st in next two sts, ch 1, 3 hdc cl in same ch-1 sp and next two sts, ch 1, *3 hdc cl, ch 1. Rep from * 7 times. Fasten off. (9 3-hdc cls)
Turn piece so bottom of work is now top row. Repeat as for two additional rows above over middle 11 3-hdc cls.
Weave in all ends. With RS facing, fold hanger cover in half lengthwise and pin to hanger, using split st markers to secure in place.
With smaller hk, pre-string 40 beads of coordinating color onto yarn. With larger hk, attach yarn at right bottom side of hanger with sl st. Work sl st seam up short side of hanger, working two sts at corner, place bead, ch 1, *sl st in next 2 sts, place bead, ch 1. Rep from * across first side of top of hanger to within two sts of hanger hook. Work two sl sts to right of hanger hook, work two sl sts to left of hanger hook, place bead, ch 1. Rep from * across second side of top of hanger to edge, working two sl sts at corner, sl st down short side of hanger. Fasten off.
Thread yarn tail at each edge of hanger through tapestry needle eye and insert tapestry needle from outside to inside and then to outside of hanger cover. Pull tail to inside and trim.
With coordinating colored organdy ribbon, tie initial bow around hanger hook, with ends of ribbon even. Pull ribbon ends to back of hanger, around middle bottom, and up front of hanger. Tie around hanger hook once more so that ends lie flat in front. Trim ribbon ends neatly.
