Pattern Notes

Follow the schematic for joining the motifs and working the body.

Pattern

Right Body

Join 16 motifs in a row running from the front over the shoulder to the back (see diagram).

Row 1: With RS facing join yarn in the ch-3 sp between the 3dc-clusters at the corner of the first motif, ch 3 (count as dc), *dc in same sp, dc in cluster, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, [dc in next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp] twice, dc in next dc, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, [dc in next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp] twice, dc in next dc, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next cluster, dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in join; rep from * 15 times, ending with last dc in same ch-3 sp between 3dc-clusters at the corner of the last motif, turn. (385 dc)

Rows 2-15 (18, 21, 24, 27): Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc across. Fasten off at end of last row.

Left Body

Join 16 motifs in a row running from the back over the shoulder to the front with the first 7 motifs also joined to the motifs of the Right Body (see diagram).

Complete as for Right Body.

Sleeve (make 2)

Join 6 motifs in a row to form sleeve cuff.

Set-up Row: With RS facing join yarn in the ch-3 sp between the 3dc-clusters at the corner of the first motif, ch 3 (count as first dc), *dc in same sp, dc in cluster, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, [dc in next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp] twice, dc in next dc, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, [dc in next dc, dc in next ch-1 sp] twice, dc in next dc, 3 dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in next cluster, dc in next ch-3 sp, dc in join; rep from * 5 times, ending with last dc in same ch-3 sp between 3dc-clusters at the corner of the last motif, turn. (145 dc)

Row 1 (Inc): Ch 3 (count as first dc), dc in same, dc across to beg ch 3, 2 dc in top of beg ch 3, turn. (2 sts increased)

Rows 2-4: Ch 3, dc across, turn.

Rows 5-20: Rep last 4 rows 4 times. (155 dc)

Fasten off.

Finishing

Block pieces to measurements.

Sew sleeves in place. Sew the sleeve and side seams.

Starting at the center back neck, work 1 rnd of sc around the front and bottom edge.

Work 1 rnd of sc around the sleeve cuff edge.

Weave in all ends.

I made this but shortened it a bit so that it hit nearer the top of my hips (12 motif row instead of 16). What I learned too late was that I should have used a smaller hook for double crochets (or a larger one for the motifs). I only tested my gauge with the dcs and my gauge was off between the two. Would recommend doing one motif to set the gauge and then adding several rows of dc on the motif to see if that works for you. I was too inexperienced to know to do that. While my dcs were on gauge, my motifs came out just over 3 inches and I had to block them to reach 4….a bit of a stretch. Anyway, my problem, not the patterns. I made the largest size but was worried because there was no adjustment for sizing on the sleeves. That didn’t seem to matter. I got the same look despite not adjusting the sleeve for size. I used Premier Angora Lace in Aloe which was perfect for this style. Thanks for the inspiration. Very beautiful piece. If I were petite and young I would have made the full length version.
