Sunkissed Crochet Bikini Top

This crochet bikini top is the perfect crop top for beating the summer heat. Wear this to any music festivals or to beachy picnics.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: One size, to fit size 34 C

Gauge: 1 motif = 2″ x 2″

Materials

Yarn: Bernat Handicrafter Cotton DeLux (100% cotton; 236 yards [215 meters]/142 grams): #78042 Rustic Grey (1 ball)
Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge
Notions: Yarn needle

Pattern

Bottom Band – Motif #1

Rnd 1: Ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook to form ring, (ch 3, dc in ring, ch 3, sl st in ring) 3 times, ch 3, 2 dc in ring; do not turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in sp between last 2 dc on last rnd, *ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 5, sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * around. Fasten off.

Referring to schematic/assembly diagram for placement of motifs, continue to join additional motifs as follows:
Motifs #2 – #16 (joining one side)
Rnd 1: Rep Rd 1 of first motif.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in sp between last 2 dc on last rnd, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, sc in 3rd of ch-5 sp on adjacent motif, ch 2, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 1, sl st in ch-3 sp on adjacent motif, ch 1, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, sc in 3rd of ch-5 sp on adjacent motif, ch 2, sc in next ch-3 sp, *ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 5**, sc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * to ** once more, join with slip st to first sc. Fasten off.

Motifs #17-30 (joining two sides)
Rnd 1: Rep Rd 1 of first motif.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in sp between last 2 dc on last rnd, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, sc in 3rd of ch-5 sp on adjacent motif, ch 2, sc in next ch-3 sp, (ch 1, sl st in ch-3 sp on adjacent motif, ch 1, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 2, sc in 3rd of ch-5 sp on adjacent motif, ch 2, sc in next ch-3 sp) 2 times, ch 3, sc in next ch-3 sp, ch 5, join with slip st to first sc. Fasten off.

Top

Row 1: With RS facing, skip first 4 motifs, join with sl st to joining st between 4th and 5th motifs, ch 1, sc in same sp, *2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next st, 3 sc in next ch-3 sp, sc in next st, 2 sc in next ch-2 sp, sc in next corner joining st**; rep from * to ** over next 2 motifs, ch 8, skip next motif, sc in next joining st between 8th and 9th motifs, rep from * to ** over next 3 motifs.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each of next 31 sts, ch 8, sc in each of next 31 sts, turn.
Rows 3-6: Rep Row 2. Separate sides for remainder of work.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 27 sts, sc2tog, turn leaving remaining sts unworked. (29 sts)
Row 8: Ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 25 sts, sc2tog, turn. (27 sts)
Row 9: Ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 23 sts, sc2tog, turn. (25 sts)
Row 10: Ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 21 sts, sc2tog, turn. (23 sts)

With RS facing, skip ch-8, join yarn with slip st in next st, ch 1, sc2tog, 1 sc in each of next 27 sts, sc2tog, turn. (29 sts)
Work Rows 8-21 as for first side.

Back Ties

With RS facing, join yarn with sl st in Row 4 of either side of bikini top, ch 90. Fasten off.
Rep for opposite side of bikini top. Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
Weave ties through the top of the back 4 motifs on each side.
Wash, block to finished measurements and let dry. yarn ball
