Little Man Necktie

Dress up your little man with this simple necktie. It’s great for using up leftover yarn (and for some laughs).

Skill Level: Easy

Size: Bowtie measures 9″ long (23 cm) with 11″ (28 cm) neckband circumference

Gauge: 6 sc = 1″ (2.5 cm) in pattern; 5 rows = 1″ (2.5 cm)

Materials

Yarn: Red Heart Anne Geddes Baby (80% acrylic, 20% nylon; 340 yards [310 meters]/100 grams): #801 Bluebell (1 ball)
Hook: US size C/2 (2.75mm) hook
Notions: Yarn needle, stitch marker, small shank or ball button

Special Stitches

Sc2tog: [Insert hook in next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

Pattern Notes

Necktie will fit toddler child.
Increase or decrease neckband chains on each size to adjust for a larger or smaller neck.
For a longer necktie, add additional rows between Rows 9-12 and Rows 28-31.

Pattern

Tie

Ch 2.
Row 1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn. (1 sc)
Row 2: Ch 1, 3 sc in sc, turn. (3 sc)
Row 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in next sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn. (5 sc)
Rows 4-6: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each sc to last sc, 2 sc in last sc, turn. (13 sc)
Continue working in back loops only until instructed otherwise.
Rows 7-8: Ch 1, 2 sc in first sc, sc in each remaining sc, turn. (13 sc)
Rows 9-12: Ch 1, sc in each sc, turn.
Row 13: Ch 1, slip st in first sc, sc in each sc, turn. 12 sc and 1 slip st.
Row 14: Ch 1, slip st in first sc, sc in each sc, slip st in last slip st, turn. (11 sc and 2 slip st)
Row 15: Ch 1, skip first slip st, sc in each sc, slip st in last slip st, turn. (11 sc and 1 slip st)
Row 16: Ch 1, skip first slip st, sc in each sc, turn. (11 sc)
Row 17: Repeat Row 9.
Row 18: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, skip next st, sc in next st; repeat from * across, turn. (6 sc and 5 ch-1 spaces)
Row 19: Ch 1, sc in first st, sc in next ch-1 space, *ch 1, skip next st, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to last st, sc in last st, turn. (7 sc and 4 ch-1 spaces)
Row 20: Ch 1, sc in first st, *ch 1, skip next st, sc in next ch-1 space; repeat from * to last 2 st, ch 1, skip next st, sc in last st, turn. (6 sc and 5 ch-1 spaces)
Rows 21-26: Repeat Rows 19 and 20 three times.
Row 27: Ch 1, sc in first st, *sc in next ch-1 space, sc in next st; repeat from * to last st, sc in last st, turn. (11 sc)
Rows 28-31: Repeat Row 9.
Rows 32-35: Repeat Rows 13-16. (9 sc)
Rows 36-38: Repeat Row 9.
Rows 39-41: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc to last 2 st, sc2tog, turn. (3 sc)
Row 42: Repeat Row 9. Place marker on end of row for placement of cinch band.
Rows 43-47: Repeat Row 4-13 sc. Do not turn at end of Row 47.

Neck Band

Row 48: Ch 29, working through back bar, slip st in 6th ch from hook (buttonhole loop made) and in each ch across, working through back loops only, sc in each st, ch 29, working through back bar, slip st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across; join with slip st in end of row. Fasten off.

Cinch Band

Ch 9.
Row 1: Working in back bar, slip st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. 8 st. Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.

Finishing

Wrap cinch band around marked row and sew in place on wrong side. Sew button to band.
Weave in ends. Block if desired. yarn ball
