Cute Wearables Ornament Set

This ornament set features a miniature sweater, hat and mitten to bring new meaning to “dressing up your tree!”

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Each ornament is approx. 3.5” finished

Materials

Yarn: Red Heart Soft (100% acrylic; 256 yards [234 meters]/141 grams): White (Color A, 1 skein), Off White (Color B, 1 skein), Seafoam (Color E, 1 skein), Light Grey Heather (Color, 1 skein F), Guacamole (Color I, 1 skein), Wine (Color J, 1 skein), Navy (Color K, 1 skein)
Hook: US size 7 (1.50 mm) or hook to obtain gauge
Notions: Yarn needle, fiberfill for stuffing 3D ornaments, stitch markers (optional)

Mitten Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked from the end of the fingers to the wrist in joined rounds.
Carry the yarn when changing colors to avoid loose ends.

Mitten Pattern

Using Color B, ch 4.
Rnd 1: 8 dc in first chain, sl st to first stitch of round to join. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: Join Color F, drop Color B, ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch. (16 sts)
Rnd 3: Pick up Color B, drop Color F, ch 2, *dc, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * to complete the round, sl st to the first stitch to join. (24 sts)
Rnd 4: Pick up Color F, drop Color B, ch 2, dc in each stitch. (24 sts)
Rnd 5: Pick up Color B, drop Color F, ch 2, dc in each stitch. (24 sts)
Rnd 6: Pick up Color F, drop Color B, ch 2, dc in each stitch. (24 sts)
Rnd 7: Pick up Color B, drop Color F, ch 2, dc in each stitch, ch 8 (this creates the thumb hole), sl st to the first stitch to join. (32 sts)
Rnd 8: Pick up Color F, drop Color B, ch 2, dc in each stitch. (32 sts)
Rnd 9: Pick up Color B, drop Color F, Ch 1, *sc 2, sc dec, repeat from * until last 2 stitches, sc 2 to end.
Rnd 10: Ch 1, sc in each stitch.
Rnd 11: Ch 1, *sc, sc dec, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, sc 2 to end.
Rnds 12-13: Ch 1, sc in each stitch.
Rnd 14: Pick up Color F, drop Color B, Ch1, sc 7, sl st to next stitch, ch 26, sl st to same stitch (this creates the hanging loop), sc in next stitch and in each to complete the round, sl st to first stitch to join.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Thumb

Rnd 1: Join Color F in the inside of thumb, ch 2, dc in each stitch, sl st to first stitch to join. (8 sts)
Rnd 2: Join Color B, drop Color F, ch 2, dc in each stitch, sl st to first stitch to join. (8 sts)
Fasten off, leaving long tail.
Using yarn needle, join the end of Round 3 and pull tightly to cinch.
Fasten off. Weave in ends. yarn ball

Mini Spiral Hat Pattern Notes

The hat is worked top down and is worked in a ‘spiral’.

Mini Spiral Hat Pattern

Rnd 1: Starting with a magic loop, Join Color A, ch 1, sc, hdc, 2 dc in loop (place a stitch marker in last stitch). Join Color I in SAME magic loop after the last dc stitch, ch 1, sc, hdc, 2 dc (place a stitch marker in last stitch). (8 sts)
Rnd 2: Continue using Color I, 2 dc in next 4 stitches (you will be at the next stitch marker). Drop Color I, pick up Color A, 2 dc in next 4 stitches (you will not be at a stitch marker). (16 sts)
Rnd 3: Continue using Color A, *dc, 2 dc in the next stitch, repeat from * 3 more times (you will be at the next stitch marker), drop Color A, pick up Color I, *dc, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * 3 more times. (24 sts)
b: Continue using Color I, *dc 2, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * 3 more times, drop Color I, pick up Color A, *dc 2, 2 dc in next stitch, repeat from * 3 more times. (32 sts)
Rnd 5: Continue using Color A, dc 16, drop Color A, pick up Color I, dc 16.
Rnd 6: Continue using Color I, dc 16, drop Color I, pick up Color A, dc 16.
Rnds 7-8: Repeat Rounds 5 and 6.
Rnd 9: To end the round, using Color A: hdc, sc, sl st to next stitch. Fasten off. Weave in ends. Using Color I: hdc, sc, sl st to next stitch. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Ties (Repeat on Each Side)

Cut 2 stripes of Colors A, I and J that are 6 inches long.
Join on opposite sides like fringe.
Braid, knot, trim. yarn ball

Sweater Pattern Notes

The sweater is made by crocheting the back and then the front, sewing them together and then adding the sleeves to finish.

Back

Using Color K, ch 13.
Row 1: Turn, sc in first stitch and in each across. (12 sts)
Rows 2-12: Turn, ch 1, sc 12. (12 sts)
Row 13: Turn, ch 1, sc 4, sl st to next stitch. Fasten off.
Turn, join yarn at opposite corner on Row 13, ch 1, sc 4, sl st to next stitch (this creates a neckline for the back panel).

Front

Note: Panel is worked bottom to top.
Using Color K, ch 13.
Row 1: Turn, sc in first stitch and in each across. (12 sts)
Rows 2-5: Turn, ch 1, sc 12. (12 sts). At end of Row 5, fasten off.
Row 6: Do not turn, with front side facing, join Color E, ch 1, sc in each stitch. (12 sts)
Row 7: Turn, sc in each stitch.
Row 8: Drop Color E, pick up Color B, turn, ch 1, sc in each stitch. (12 sts)
Row 9: Fasten off Color B, pick up Color E, turn, ch 1, sc in each stitch. (12 sts)
Row 10: Turn, ch 1, sc in each stitch. (12 sts)
Row 11: Fasten off Color E, join Color K, turn, sc in each stitch. (12 sts)
Row 12: Turn, ch 1, sc 6. (6 sts)
Row 13: Turn, sc dec, sc 4. (5 sts)
Row 14: Turn, sc 3, sc dec. (4 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Join yarn in opposite corner of Row 10, repeat Rows 11-14.
With right sides facing, use yarn needle and sew side together from bottom up leaving 5 rows unsewn. Repeat on opposite side. Turn right side out.
Next, sew the shoulders from corner 4 stitches inward on each side, leaving the neck open. Weave in all ends.

Sleeves

Row 1: Join Color K at seam under arm, ch 2, using the ends of rows as stitches, dc in each stitch, sl st to first stitch to join. (10 sts)
Rnds 2-5: Ch 2, dc in each stitch, sl st to first stitch to join. (10 sts)
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Hanging Loop

Join yarn in center back of sweater, ch 26, sl st to same stitch.
Fasten off. Weave in ends.

To finish, use yarn needle and Color K to pin the sleeves to side of sweater. yarn ball
