Cardamom Mini Purse

For an autumn evening out, this mini purse is an excellent accessory. Each side of this charming project boasts slightly different colors in post stitches, giving it an eclectic fall flavor. Using wool yarn, the textured stitches blend beautifully once felted.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 11” diameter (Pre-Felted), 7.5” diameter (Felted)

Gauge: 16 sts and 6 rows = 4” [10 cm] 

Material

Yarn: Plymouth Yarn Gina (100% Wool; 109 yards [100 meters]/50 grams): Color 0015 (2 skeins)

Hook: US Size K/10½ (6.50 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle, 0.5” sewing snap

Abbreviations

FPdc – front post double crochet

BPsc – back post single crochet

Special Stitches

Foundation single crochet (fsc): Ch 1, insert hook into indicated st, *yo, pull up lp, yo, pull through 1 lp (1 ch made), yo, pull through 2 lps**. For each fsc, insert hook into ch of last st made; rep from * to **.

Ch-3 at beginning of round counts as first double crochet.

Side 1

Make slip ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 11 dc into ring, join with sl st to beg dc. (12 sts)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, FPdc in same st as joining, [(dc, FPdc) in next st] 11 times, join with sl st to beg dc. (24 sts)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in same st as join, (dc, FPdc) in next FPdc, [2 dc in next st, (dc, FPdc) in next st] 11 times, join with sl st to beg dc. (36 dc, 12 fpdc)

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in same st, dc in next 2 sts, FPdc in next FPdc, (2 dc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, FPdc in next FPdc) 11 times, join with sl st to beg dc. (48 dc, 12 FPdc)

Rnd 5: Ch 3, dc in same st, (FPdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, FPdc in next FPdc, 2 dc in next st) 11 times, FPdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, FPdc in next FPdc, join with sl st to beg dc. (48 dc, 24 fpdc)

Rnd 8: Ch 1, BPsc in each st around, join with sl st to beg sc.

Rnd 9: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st to beg sc.

Rnd 10: Ch 1, hdc in next 23 sts, (hdc, ch 1, sl st) in next st, leave rem sts unworked.

Fasten off.

Side 2

Rep Side 1 Rnds 1-9.

Rnd 10: Ch 1, hdc in next 23 sts, (hdc, ch 1, sl st) in next st, holding right sides of Side 1 and Side 2 together, ch 1, sc in both Sides for next 58 sts. Do not fasten off.

Finishing

Handle

Sl st in next 5 sts, ch 1, fsc 50, sk 14 sts, (sc, sl st) in next st, sl st in next 4 sts.

Fasten off.

Work same as first Handle.

Weave in all ends.

For felting, allow purse to agitate for 10-20 minutes, checking size. Sew on snap.
