How to: Crocodile Stitch

The crocodile stitch might look intimidating, but once you’ve mastered it, you’ll love incorporating it into your crocheted pieces, from items to wear to home décor! Once you’ve got it down, practice your skills with the adorable Owl See You at School Backpack pattern in this issue .

Crocodile Stitch: 4 dc down next post, ch 1, 4 dc up next post.

Pocket

Using C1, ch 15.

Row 1: Sc in second chain from hook and in each chain across – 14 sts.

Rows 2-3: Turn, ch 1, sc in each stitch across – 14 sts.

Row 4: Turn, ch 3, dc in same stitch, *sk 1 stitch, 2 dc in next stitch; repeat from * to complete row – 14 sts.

Row 5: Turn, ch 3, 3 dc down first post, ch 1, 4 dc up next post, *skip 2 sts, Crocodile Stitch (see Special Stitches); repeat from * to complete row.

Row 6: Turn, ch 1, *2 dc in center of Crocodile Stitch, 2 dc in unworked 2 dc from previous row; repeat from * to last Crocodile Stitch, 2 dc in center of Crocodile Stitch to complete row.

Row 7: Sk first 2 dc, Crocodile stitch, *sk 2 sts, Crocodile Stitch; repeat from * to last 2 dc, sl st to center of 2 dc to complete row.

Row 8: Ch 3, dc in same sp, *2 dc in center of Crocodile Stitch, 2 dc in unworked 2 dc from previous row; repeat from * to complete row.

Row 9: Repeat Row 5. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
