Finishing

Fringe

Designer Tip: Instead of using yarn end from inside skein, use outside yarn end to make fringe and tassels which will produce smoother results.

Cut 39 strands of C1, each 5” long.

Row 1: Beg at first st of flap edging, insert hook from bottom to top up through both lps of st, fold 1 fringe in half and use hook to pull fold under lps, pull fringe ends through fold. Pull gently to tighten fringe, [ski next st, insert hook from bottom to top up through both lps of next st, fold 1 fringe in half and use hook to pull fold under lps, pull fringe ends through fold. Pull gently to tighten fringe.] around flap edging. Use same technique to add last fringe to skipped st at center tip of flap.

Beg at cut end of fringe and gradually working upwards, use tapestry needle to make short vertical strokes through fringe ends to unravel and fray. Place flap WS down onto a flat surface, use ruler and scissors to trim fringe ends to approximately 2” in length.

Tassel (Make 13)

Wrap 1 strand C2 around 9” card board square 8 times. Remove from cardboard and cut through lps at bottom edge.

Assembly

With top left side edge of flap RS facing, insert hook from RS to WS through lower ch-3 sp and up through upper ch-3 sp to RS, fold tassel in half, use hook to pull ends of one half of tassel through lower ch-3 opening. Fold tassel in half again, having cut ends even. Thread tapestry needle with tassel tie, insert needle from WS to RS through lower ch-3 opening, bring tie over tassel and  down to WS through same ch-3 opening. Flip flap upwards to expose WS, knot tie ends securely. Use one tie end and tapestry needle again, and make one straight st on WS in center sk st under ch-3 opening, knot ends tightly to secure. Rep to add rem 12 tassels in same manner around flap edge.

Trim tassels to ends of tassels to approximately 2 1/8” long or to desired length.

Optional, use MC and tapestry needle to tack flap to front of pillow to secure.
