Mulled Wine Tunisian Scarf

Worked in Tunisian crochet tire tread stitch, this scarf will be your perfect go-to accessory. It’s the right amount of warmth and the right length for plenty of wraps around the neck.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Sizes: One Size 7½” [19 cm] wide x 82” [208 cm] long

Gauge: 14 sts and 10 rows = 4” [10 cm]

Materials

Yarn:

Bulky Weight Yarn Cascade 128 Superwash (100% Merino Wool; 128 yards [117 meters]/100 grams): 855 Burgundy, 4 balls

Hook: US size 10 (6.0 mm): Tunisian hook

Notions: tapestry needle

Pattern Notes

The scarf is worked flat. If you want to make yours smaller or larger, chain an odd number of stitches.

Special Stitches

Tunisian Simple Stitch (Tss) – Insert hook from right to left behind single vertical thread, yo hook, draw loop through and leave on hook, unless otherwise stated, the hook is always inserted in this way.

Tunisian Purl Stitch (Tps) – On forward half of row, bring yarn to front, insert hook in next vertical bar, bring yarn to back under hook, wrap around hook from back to front, draw yarn through st (purl made).

How to work Return Pass

Yo, pull through 1 lp on hook (this ch forms the edge stitch), *yo, pull through 2 ls on hook; rep from *to end.

Pattern

Ch 26.

Row 1 (RS) Fwd: Pull up loop in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across row.

Return Pass: Work off loops as normal.

Row 2 Fwd: (Loop on hook counts as 1 st) *Tps in next st, Tss in next st; rep from * across to end.

Return Pass: Work off loops as normal.

Row 3 Fwd: (Loop on hook counts as 1 st.) *Tss in next st, Tps in next st; rep from * across to last 2 sts, tss in last 2 sts.

Return Pass: Work off loops as normal.

Rep Rows 2-3 until piece meas 82” [208 cm] or desired length.

Last Row: *Tps in next st and pull through loop on hook, Tss in next st and pull through loop on hook;

rep from * to end.

Fasten off.

Finishing

Attach yarn at side without chain stitches and work single crochet stitches along edge of scarf for a neat finish.

Fasten off.

Weave in any remaining ends.
