Winter Wisteria Booties

On those chillier evenings, these cabled ankle booties would help to keep even the tiniest tootsies warm and looking extra stylish! The booties each feature a flipped over cuff, with mini cable stitches running down the cuff.

Yarn:

Light Weight Yarn Stylecraft Classique Cotton DK (100% Cotton; 201 yards [184 meters]/100 grams): 3664 Wisteria (Color A), 1 (1) ball; 3665 Ivory (Color B), 1 (1) ball.

Hook: US size E/4 (3.5 mm)

Special Stitches

Front post double crochet (Fpdc)

Yo, insert hook under the post of the next st, yo, draw up a lp (3 lps on hook), yo, draw through 2 lps on hook (2 lps on hook), yo, draw through last 2 lps on hook.

Cable stitch (Cable St)

Skip 2 sts, work fpdc in 3rd st, work 1 fpdc in 4th st. Going back to the first st skipped, fpdc in the first and 2nd skipped sts (the sections should be crossed over).

Rnd 2: Beg in first st from the previous rnd, work 2 hdc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, work 2 hdc in next 5 sts, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, work 2 hdc in next 3 sts. Do not sl st in first hdc of this rnd – 36 (40) sts.

Rnd 3: Beg in first st from the previous rnd, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st; rep from * one more, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st; rep from * 4 more times, hdc in next 8 (10) sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st; rep from * twice more, sl st in first st of this rnd – 46 (50) sts.

Top of Shoe

Rnd 1: Attach Color A right in the middle of the heel, ch 1, working through the backloops only on this rnd, sc in the same st and next 45 (49) sts. Do not sl st in first sc of this rnd – 46 (50) sts.

Rnds 2 – 4 (5): Beg in first st from the previous rnd, sc in every st around. Do not sl st in first sc of this rnd – 46 (50) sts.

Rnd 5 (6): Beg in first st from the previous rnd, sc in next 15 (17) sts, *sc2tog, sc in next st; rep from * 5 more times, sc in next 13 (15) sts. Do not sl st in first sc of this rnd – 40 (44) sts.

Rnd 6 (7): Beg in first st from the previous rnd, sc in next 15 (17) sts, work 6 sc2tog, sc in next 13 (15) sts. Do not sl st in first sc of this rnd – 34 (38) sts.

Cable Cuff

Rnd 1: Attach Color B to 3rd (4th) st of Rnd 15 (18) of Top of Shoe. Turn. Working from the inside of the bootie, ch 1, 2 sc in same st, sc in next 27 (31) sts, work 1 (2) sc in next st, sl st in first st of this rnd – 30 (35) sts.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 0 (1) st, *Cable St over next 4 sts, sc in next 2 (3) sts; rep from * 3 more times, Cable St, sc in next st, sl st in first st of this rnd.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 29 (34) sts, sl st in first st of this rnd.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 0 (1) st, *Fpdc around next 4 fpdc (Cable St) from 2 rnds below, sc in next 2 (3) sts; rep from * 3 more times, Fpdc around next 4 fpdc (Cable St) from 2 rnds below, sc in next st, sl st in first st of this rnd.

    These booties are such cuties! I am trying to crochet them and wondered how to determine which end of the sole is the heel and which is the toe. The beginning of the “Top of the Shoe” says to attach the thread at the center of the heel but does not specify which end is which. That may be general knowledge but this is my first pair of booties so I have never run into this instruction before.
