Amethyst Lace Cardigan

Cozy is the name of the game in this versatile cardigan. A generous ribbed collar can be secured at the lower edge with buttons as shown, or left unbuttoned so you use a shawl pin closure. Most pieces of this cardigan are worked in half double crochet ribbing, creating flattering vertical lines.

Row 1: Sc in 4th ch from hook, *sk 2 ch, Sh in next ch, sk 2 ch, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch; rep from * to last 6 ch, sk 2 ch, Sh in next ch, sk 2 ch, (sc, ch 1, hdc) in last ch, turn.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in hdc, *(sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 sp, Sh in ch-3 sp; rep from * to last ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 sp, 3 dc in third ch of beg ch, turn.

Pattern Notes

This cardigan is worked in pieces and seamed. The Back is worked from the center out to the Sleeve Cuffs. The Sleeves are also worked from the center Back out to the Sleeve Cuffs. Fronts are worked from the center out to the Sleeve Cuffs.

Ch 12, fasten off, set aside.

Ch 16.

Row 1 (WS): Working through top lp of each ch, work Row 1 of Shells Lace patt.

Work Rows 2-3 of Shell Lace patt 3 times. Piece meas about 3½”.

Increase for Shoulder

Next Row (RS): Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in hdc, *(sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 sp, Sh in ch-3 sp; rep from * to last ch-2 sp, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-2 sp, Sh in 3rd ch of beg ch; working onto reserved ch 12, sk first 2 ch, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch, sk 2 ch, Sh in next ch, sk 2 ch, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch, sk 2 ch, 3 dc in last ch, turn – 3 Sh, 4 ch-3 sps.

With WS facing, attach yarn with sl st to right-most ch of beg-ch from Right Sleeve.

Row 1 (WS): Ch 3, sc in same ch, *sk 2 ch, Sh in next ch, sk 2 ch, (sc, ch 3, sc) in next ch; rep from * to last 6 ch, sk 2 ch, Sh in next ch, sk 2 ch, (sc, ch 1, hdc) in last ch, turn.

Work Rows 2-3 of Shell Lace patt 3 times. Piece meas about 3½”.

Increase for Shoulder

Rep Row 2 of Hdc Ribbing until piece meas 8½”. Fasten off.

Finishing

Block pieces to finished measurements. Sew back and fronts to sleeves, using diagram as a guide. Sew sleeve and side seams. Sew beg-ch edge of Collar to front opening of assembled cardigan. Steam seams. Fold back lower edges of Collar and sew a button through both Collar layers to secure.
