Great Heights Cardigan

This lightweight open-front cardigan with pretty lace detail is the perfect addition to any woman’s warm weather wardrobe.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: Finished Bust Size 30 (34, 38, 42, 46, 50, 54)” to fit bust 28 (32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52)”

2” positive ease recommended.

Gauge: 24 sts and 16 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Hdc, after wet blocking.

Yarn:

Lace Weight Yarn Anzula Cloud (80% Superwash Merino, 10% Cashmere, 10% Nylon; 575 yards [525 meters]/114 grams): Prudence, 2 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5) skeins

Hook: US size F/5 (3.75 mm)

Notions: Removable markers

Special Stitches

Cluster 4 Stitch: Work 3 dc around stem of dc just made leaving last loop of each dc on hook, then work 4th dc in stitch as indicated, leaving loop as before (5 loops on hook), yo and through all 5 loops.

Pattern Notes

The cardigan is worked flat in one piece from the bottom up, separating for the back and fronts. Sleeves are worked flat, seamed and joined to body.

Fdc 180 (204, 228, 252, 276, 300, 324).
Row 1: *Sk 2 sts, dc in next st, ch 3, work Cluster 4 Stitch skipping next 2 sts placing 4th dc in next st; rep from * across row, ending with sk 2 sts, dc in last st, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in next ch-3 sp, *ch 3, work Cluster 4 Stitch working 4th dc in next ch-3 sp; rep from * across row, ending with dc in tch, turn.

Rep Row 2, 15 more times or until piece meas desired length.

Next Row: Ch 2, work 3 hdc in each ch-3 sp across row, ending with dc in tch, turn – 181, (205, 228, 252, 276, 300, 325) hdc.

Cont working in hdc until piece meas 14” from foundation ch, turn.

Count across 45 (51, 57, 63, 69, 75, 81) hdc in from both ends and place a marker. There should be 91 (103, 115, 127, 139, 151, 163) hdc center sts between markers for Back.

Right Front and Neck Shaping

Row 1: Ch 2, hdc in next 40 (46, 50, 56, 60, 66, 70) hdc, leaving rem sts unworked, turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc across to end of row, turn.
Row 3: Ch 2, hdc, hdc2tog, hdc across to end of row, turn.

Rep Rows 2-3 until 19 (21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28) sts rem.

Work even in hdc until armhole meas 6½ (7, 7½, 8, 8½, 9, 9½)”. Fasten off.

Back

Row 1: Count 5 (5, 7, 7, 9, 9, 11) hdc from marker for Back sts, rejoin yarn with sl st, ch 2, hdc across to 5 (5, 7, 7, 9, 9, 11) hdc before next marker, turn – 81 (93, 101, 113, 121, 133, 141) hdc.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc across to end of row, turn.

Rep Row 2 until Back meas 6½ (7, 7½, 8, 8½, 9, 9½)”. Fasten off.

Left Front and Neck Shaping

Row 1: Count 5 (5, 7, 7, 9, 9, 11) hdc from marker for Left Front sts, rejoin with sl st, ch 2, hdc in next 40 (46, 50, 56, 60, 66, 70) hdc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, hdc, hdc2tog, hdc across to end of row, turn.
Row 3: Ch 2, hdc across to end of row, turn.

Rep Rows 2-3 until 19 (21, 22, 24, 25, 27, 28) sts rem.

Work even in hdc until armhole meas 6½ (7, 7½, 8, 8½, 9, 9½)”. Fasten off.

Work even in hdc until piece meas 8 (8, 7, 7, 7, 7, 7)” from foundation ch, blocked.

Finishing

Weave in all ends. Block all pieces. Sew shoulder and side seams. Sew Sleeve seam. Sew sleeves into armholes.

Front/Neck Edging

Beginning at lower Right Front edge, attach yarn with sl st, sc up front, around Back, and down Left Front. Fasten off. Weave in all ends.yarn ball
