Up and Away Tank

A floral lace pattern makes up this pretty tank top. The crochet belt adds shape to simple shaped piece

Skill Level: Intermediate

1-2” positive ease recommended.

Gauge: 11 sts = 4” [10 cm] in pattern after wet blocking, using smaller hook.

Yarn:

Fine Weight Yarn Knit Picks Shine Sport (60% Pima Cotton, 40% Modal; 110 yards [101 meters]/50 grams): Wisteria, 4 (4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) skeins

Hook: US size F/5 (3.75 mm) and US size H/8 (5.0 mm)

Notions: Removable markers; tapestry needle

3Tr Cluster: *(Yo) twice, insert hook into st, yo, pull up loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) twice; rep twice more, (yo, pull through 2 loops) 3 times.

2Tr Cluster: *(Yo) twice, insert hook into st, yo, pull up loop, (yo, pull through 2 loops) twice; rep once more, (yo, pull through 2 loops) twice.

Pattern Notes

This tank is worked flat in pieces from the bottom up. Shoulders and sides are seamed. A round of sc is worked around the armholes and neck opening to finish.

Pattern

Back

With larger hook, ch 41 (49, 57, 65, 73, 81, 89).

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across row, turn – 40 (48, 56, 64, 72, 80, 88) sc.

Rows 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across row, turn.
Switch to smaller hook.

Set-up Row: Ch 3, *sk next 3 sts, (3Tr Cluster, ch 7, 3Tr Cluster) in the next st, ch 3, sk next 3 sts, sc in next st; rep from * across to end of row, turn.

Work Rows 1-4 of Stitch Pattern 3 more times.

Work Rows 1-3 once more.

Shape Armhole  

Row 4: Sl st across to 1st sc, ch 3, sk 1st Tr, *sk 3 ch sp, (3Tr Cluster, ch 7, 3Tr Cluster) in next cluster group, ch 3, sk 3 ch sp, sc in next sc; rep from * across to 1 sc before end of row, sc to end of row, turn, sl st across sc sts.

Work Rows 1-4 until armhole meas 7 (8, 9, 10, 10, 11, 11)”, ending with Row 2 or 4. Do not fasten off.

Next 2 Rows: Ch 1, sc across row. Fasten off.

Front

Work same as Back to Armhole shaping.

Place stitch marker at sc at the center of the front.

Shape Armhole and Left Front Neck Edge

Row 4: Sl st across to 1st sc, ch 3, sk 1st Tr, *sk 3 ch sp, (3Tr Cluster, ch 7, 3Tr Cluster) in next cluster group, ch 3, sk 3 ch sp, sc in next sc; rep from * across to 1 sc before center sc, turn.

Work Rows 1-2 in patt.

Row 3: Ch 3, work 2Tr Cluster in same st, sk (3 ch sp, sc, 2 ch sp), 3Tr Cluster in next ch-sp, cont in patt to end of row, turn.

Row 4: Work in patt to 3Tr Cluster before last ch-7, turn.

Row 1: Ch 3, 2Tr Cluster in 1st st, sk (ch-sp, sc, 2 ch-sp), 3Tr Cluster in next ch-sp, cont in patt to end, turn.

Cont in patt until front measure same as back, working 2 rows in sc. Fasten off.

Right Front Neck Edge

Row 4: Rejoin yarn in 2nd sc from Left Front neck edge, ch 3, 3Tr Cluster, cont in est patt across to 1 sc before end of row, sc to end of row, turn, sl st across sc sts.

Work Rows 1-2 in est patt.

Row 3: Work across to last (3Tr Cluster, ch 7, 3Tr Cluster) group, turn.

Row 4: Ch 3, 2Tr Cluster in 1st group, ch 7, 3Tr Cluster in same group, cont in patt to end.

Work Row 1 in est patt, ending with ch 3, 2Tr Cluster, sc in 4 th ch of last ch-7, turn.

Cont in patt until front measure same as back, working 2 rows in sc. Fasten off.

Finishing

Block each piece. Seam shoulders and sides using your preferred method.

Work in sc for 2 rounds around each armhole and neck openings.

Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Belt

With smaller hook, ch 162, or length to tie around your waist.

Row 1: Hdc in 3rd hook from hook and in each ch across row, turn.

Row 2: Ch 2, hdc in each hdc across row. Fasten off. Weave in end.

Belt Fringe (optional)

Cut eight 10” length of yarn.

Take 4 strands, fold in half and pull through end of belt. Pull yarn ends through yarn strand loop. Pull tight. Trim ends.

Repeat for other end of belt.yarn ball
