Mint Julep Scarf

This mint-colored scarf features two rows of semi-circles and a row of star-shaped flowers that combine for an intricate and airy springtime scarf. Add a hint of style to any outfit with this intermediate scarf.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 5 ½” wide x 60” long 

Gauge: One semi-circle = 2” wide x 1 ¾” deep, 20 single crochets = 4” 

Materials

Yarn:

Yarn Sizes-03 Quince and Co. Willet (100% cleaner cotton; 160 yards [146 meters]/50 grams): #710 Dinghy (3 skeins)

Hook: US size D/3 (3.25 mm)

Notions: Steel tapestry needle, removable markers  

Pattern Notes 

Even numbered rows of semi-circle (sem-cir), are going to be the right side of the scarf.
Ch 3 counts as a double crochet unless otherwise noted. Ch 4 counts as dc, ch-1 space
Work into chain spaces when working sem-cir. Do not work into chain spaces when working slip stitches to connect them to each other.
Sem-cir are attached to one another along top side with a series of slip stitches
You will work second section of semi-circles into a row of single crochets
The floral star trim is made separately and added to lower edge of first section of sem-cir.

Abbreviations

tr2tog: 2 treble crochets worked together
tr3tog: 3 treble crochets together

Pattern

First Section of Semi-Circles

Row 1: Ch 10, tr in 1st ch, turn work.
Row 2: Ch 3, work 9 dc into ch-10 sp, turn work. (10 dc)
Row 3: Ch 4, sk first dc in previous row, (dc, ch 1) into each dc across to last 2 sts, sk next dc, dc in top of ch-3, turn work. (9 dc, 8 ch-1 sps)  
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each dc and ch-1 sp across to ch-4, dc in ch-1 sp, dc in 3rd ch from bottom, turn work. (17 sc)
Row 5: Ch 1, (sc, ch 1) in each sc across to last sc, sc in last st, turn work. (17 scs, 16 ch-1 sps) 

Second– Twenty-Eighth Sem-Cir

Row 1: Ch 4, sk next 3 sc, sl st into 4th sc, (see pattern notes), turn work, ch 6, work tr into bottom of beg ch-4, turn work.
Row 2: Ch 3, work 9 dc into ch-6 sp, sk next 2 sc at top of sem-cir, sl st into 3rd sc, (see pattern notes). (10 dc)
Row 3: Ch 3, sl st into 3rd sc above previous in top of sem-cir, turn work, ch 1, sk first dc and work (dc, ch 1) into each dc across to last 2 sts, sk next dc, dc in top of ch-3, turn work.       (9 dc, 8 ch-1 sps)
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each dc and ch-1 sp across to ch 4, dc in ch-1 sp, dc in 3rd ch from bottom, turn work. (17 sc)
Row 5: Ch 1, (sc, ch 1) in each sc across to last sc, sc in last st, turn work. (17 scs, 16 ch-1 sps)
Once you have completed 28 sem-cir, fasten off, turn work.

Single Crochet Rows between Semi-Circle Rows

Row 1: Attach yarn to WS at center top sc of first sem-cir, work 5 scs evenly across to beg of next sem-cir, work 15 more scs evenly across to center of 3rd sem-cir, place marker here, continue working a series of 20 scs evenly across next set of sem-cir, placing markers as you go until you have 275 scs across, ending with 5 scs into top of last sem-cir. Keep stitch markers in place, turn work. (280 scs)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc into each sc across, move st markers up as you work, turn work. Each sem-cir should be worked with 10 sc between in this row. 

Second Section of Semi-Circles

(worked into scs on previous row)
Row 1: With WS facing, ch 10, tr in 1st ch, sk next 3 sc on row below, sl st in next sc.
Row 2: Ch 3, sk next 2 sc, sl st in next sc, turn, work 9 dc in ch-10 sp, ch 1, turn work. (10 dc)
Row 3: Ch 4, sk 1st dc, (dc, ch 1) in each dc across to last 2 sts, sk next st, dc in top of ch-3, sk next 2 sc on row below, sl st in 3rd sc, turn work. (9 dc, 8 ch-1 sp)
Row 4: Ch 1, sc into each dc and ch-1 sp across to ch-4, dc in ch-1 sp, dc in 3rd ch from bottom, turn work. (17 sc)
Row 5: Ch 1, (sc, ch 1) in each sc across to last sc, sc in last st, sl st in next sc on previous row.

2nd–28th Sem-Cir

Row 1: Ch 4, sk next 3 sc and sl st into 4th sc, (see pattern notes), turn work, ch 6, work tr into bottom of beg ch-4, sk next 3 sc in row below, sl st in 4th sc.
Row 2: Ch 3, sk next 2 sc in row below, sl st in 3rd sc, turn, work 9 dc in ch-6 sp, sk next 2 sc at top of sem-cir, sl st into 3rd sc, (see pattern notes). (10 dc)
Row 3: Ch 3, sk next 2 sc at top of sem-cir, sl st into 3rd sc, (see pattern notes), turn work, ch 1, sk 1st dc and work (dc, ch 1) into each dc across to last 2 sts, sk next dc, dc in last st, sk next 2 sc in row below, sl st in 3rd sc, turn work. (9 dc, 8 ch-1 sp)
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each dc and ch-1 sp across to ch-4, sc in ch-1, sc in 3rd ch from bottom, turn work. (17 scs)
Row 5: Ch 1, (sc, ch 1) in each sc across to last st, sc in last st, sl st in next sc on row below. (17 scs, 16 ch-1 sps)
Once you have completed 28 sem-cir, fasten off. 

Floral Star Trim

Row 1: Worked vertically, *ch 3, dc in 3rd ch from hook, ch 4, work tr2tog in 3rd ch from hook; rep from * 46 times, ending with ch 4, dc in 3rd ch from hook.  
Row 2: [Ch 6, work tr3tog in between last (dc, ch-3 sp) of row 1] 2 times, ch 1, work tr3tog in next (dc, ch-3 sp); rep from [ ] until last (dc, ch-3 sp) of row 1, end with [ch-6, work tr3tog in last (dc, ch-3 sp)] 2 times.
Row 3: Working on opposite side, rep Row 2 until last (dc, ch-3 sp), end with ch 1, tr3tog in last (dc, ch-1 sp), ch 6, tr3tog in same (dc, ch-1 sp), sl st in first ch of ch-6 in beg of Row 2, do not fasten off. You should have a total of 47 Floral Stars. 

Finishing

Pin trim to lower edge of first section of sem-cir. Attach with 228 sl sts worked loosely and evenly across.
