Sea Isle Tunic

This loose-fit tunic top is the perfect springtime tee, great for a sunny walk on the beach or out with friends. This piece can also carry over into the warmer summer months as a swimsuit coverup.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: S (M, L, 1X, 2X, 3X)

Gauge: 14 sts and 11 1/2 rows = 4″ in hdc

Materials

Yarn:

Fine Weight Yarn Knit Picks Shine Sport (60% pima cotton, 40% modal natural beech wood fiber; 110 yards [100 meters]/50 grams: #23615 Cream (A, 5 (6, 6, 7, 7, 8) skeins), #25779 Pistachio (B, 6 (6, 7, 8, 8, 9) skeins)

Hook: US size H/8 (5.0 mm) hook or size needed to obtain gauge

Notions: Tapestry needle

Special Stitches

Fhdc (foundation half double crochet): Chain 3 (counts as first fhdc). Yarn over and insert hook in 3rd chain from hook. *Yarn over and pull up loop (3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through 1 loop creating a chain, (this is an important step but easy to forget). Yarn over again and pull through all three loops on hook. This completes the second fhdc (remember your first ch3 counted as the first fhdc). To stitch the next fhdc, yarn over and insert the hook into the chain made in the 2nd fhdc and repeat from *.

Pattern Notes

Ch 1 is not considered the first sc, first sc will be placed in the first st of each sc row.

I get an error trying to download the pattern. Is it possible to get it emailed to me instead? Also just want to confirm that all changes I have seen in the comments have been fully incorporated to the pattern above? Or do we have to go through each comment and go back and forth between the pattern and recommended corrected errors?
I am not great reading patterns as is, so if there are errors it might confuse me more.

Hi Laura! We recently updated our downloads feature, so perhaps you were trying to download the schematic while we were in the midst of that change. Please try again and let me know, it should prompt you to save the schematic to your computer. At this time, we only have the schematic available to download, though in the future downloads of full patterns will be available to gold members, once we make pdfs of full patterns. This will take some time, so we appreciate your patience! In regards to the changes, yes we do our best to incorporate any major changes each time we discover an error. In the pattern above you’ll see “updated date” next to a couple sections. Hope this helps! – Nicola, Editor

  • In the directions for the bottom lace edge, rows 5-7 are repeats of rows 1-3, but row 8 says to “chain 3, turn, dc in first st, ch 1 sk next dc.” But row 7/3 doesn’t have any dc. It’s sc and chains. This doesn’t make any sense. Are we supposed to actually do rows 1-4 or 2-4 instead of 1-3?

Hi Lori! You are correct – it should be 2-4 rows. The pattern has now been updated. Thank you for your patience! – Nicola, Editor

I don’t understand the last part of the sleeve section. For 1x 2x and 3x only, it says ‘Next Row’ and gives the instructions for working into the row that has 6-ch’s. But the 3rd row of the lace pattern repeat already was worked into the 6-ch’s row. Are we supposed to work into that row twice? And if so then you are working over the last row of the lace pattern repeat.

Hi Rebecca! We’ve now updated that row in the pattern and I’m pasting it here as well:
Next Row: Ch 3, turn, dc in same st, ch 1, sk next dc, *dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from *
to last 2 dc, sk next dc, 2 dc in the last dc. Fasten off.

      Happy crocheting! – Nicola

  • This top is beautiful, I must make it, but is there another stitch I can use instead of the Fhdc (foundation half double crochet), I have a terrible time making this stitch. Thank you for a great pattern

Hi Mary! Instead of fhdc, you can chain the given number, plus 2, instead then, you can st into the 3rd ch from the hook. Hope that helps! – Nicola
