Beary Cute Cord Buddy

This cute little buddy works up quickly and serves a practical purpose, too! Wrap your headphones around his body and secure them easily with the heart and snap.

Skill Level: Easy

Size: 3½ – 4” tall

Gauge: 28 sts and 28 rows = 4” [10 cm] in sc.

Gauge is not necessary for this project

Materials

Yarn:

Fine Weight Yarn Nazli Gelin Garden 3 (100% Egyptian Cotton; 136 yards [125 meters]/50 grams): 300-22 Dark Brown (C1), 1 ball; 300-05 Medium Pink (C2), 1 ball; 300-06 Deep Pink (C3), very small amount; 300-19 Light Tan (C4), very small amount.

Hook: US size C/2 (2.75 mm)

Notions: Removable markers; tapestry needle; polyester fiberfil (small amount); sew-on snap (6 mm); small amount of matching sewing thread; sewing needle

Special Stitches

3 tr CL

*Yo twice, insert hook in to next st, yo, draw up a lp, (yo, pull through 2 lps) twice; rep from * twice more, yo, pull through all 4 lps on hook.

Pattern Notes

This pattern is worked in the round from the top down.

Pattern

Head/Body

With C1, ch 5.

Rnd 1: Sc in second ch and in each ch across, ch 1, sc in last ch again, ch 1, now working on other side of ch, sc in each ch across, ch 1, sl st in first sc of round – 9 sc and 2 ch-1 sps.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each st (skipping all ch-1 sps) around – 18 sc.

Rnd 3: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sc in each of next 8 sts, 2 sc in next st, sc in each of next 8 sts – 20 sc.

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in each st around.

Rnd 5: Ch 1, (2 sc in next st, sc in next 9 sts) twice – 22 sc.

Rnd 6: Ch 1, (2 sc in next st, sc in next 10 sts) twice – 24 sc.

Rnds 7-19: Ch 1, sc in each st around.

Do not fasten off.

Leg

Rnd 20: Ch 1, sc in next 7 sts, ch 2, sk next 13 sts, sc in next 4 sts, sl st to first sc.

Rnd 21: Ch 1, sc in each st around (leaving all skipped sts unworked) and sc in each ch of ch-2 sp, sl st in first sc – 13 sts.

Rnd 22: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, sl st to first st – 11 sts.

Rnd 23: Rep Rnd 4.

Rnd 24: Ch 1, sc in next st, (sc2tog, sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next st, sl st to 1 st – 8 sts. Fasten off.

Ears (make 2)

Rnd 1: With C1, work 6 sc in an adjustable ring, join with sl st – 6 sc.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with sl st.

Rnd 3:  Ch 1, (sc2tog) 3 times, sl st to first st – 3 sc.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for assembly.

Arms (make 2)

Rnd 1: With C1, work 8 sc in an adjustable ring, join with sl st.

Rnd 2:  Ch 1, sc in each st around.

Rnds 3-5: Rep Rnd 2.

Fasten off leaving a long tail for assembly.

Nose

With C4, work 4 sc in an adjustable ring. Fasten off.

 

Using photo as a guide and tapestry needle, secure ears, nose, and arms to body.

Embroider eyes and nose details with contrasting thread.

With polyester fiberfil lightly stuff body and first leg using the opening for second leg.

 

Second Leg

On back side of bear, join with sl st in 4th st from completed leg.

Rnd 20: Ch 1, sc in same st and in next 3 sts, ch 2, sk 2 sts on front of bear, sc in next 7 sts – 11 sc.

Rnd 21: Ch 1, sc in each st around and in each ch of the ch-2 sp – 13 sc.

Lightly stuff this leg before completing.

Rnd 22: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sts, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sts, sl st to first st – 11 sts.

Rnd 23: Rep Rnd 4.

Rnd 24: Ch 1, sc in next st, (sc2tog, sc in next st) 3 times, sc in next st, sl st to 1 st – 8 sts. Fasten off.

Finishing

Bear

Row 1: With back of bear facing, join with sc in st between 2 legs, sc in next st, ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Fasten off leaving a long tail for assembly.

Lay piece over opening between legs and sew so no more opening.

Heart

With C2, ch 4.

Row 1: Work 2 dc in 4th ch from hook, turn – 3 dc.

Row 2: Ch 2, dc in first st, dc in next st, 2 dc in top of t-ch, turn – 5 dc.

Row 3: Ch 3, dc in first st, dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in top of t-ch, turn – 7 dc.

Row 4: Ch 3, dc in first st, dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in top of t-ch, turn – 9 dc.

Row 5: Ch 2, 3 tr CL over next 3 sts, ch 3, sl st in next st, ch 3, 3 tr CL over next 3 sts, ch 3, sl st in top of t-ch.

Fasten off.

Edging

With C3, work sl st in each st/row around border of heart. You may need to add a few ch-1’s to keep heart flat.

Finishing

With tapestry needle and matching thread and using photo as a guide, sew heart to center of bear’s body.

With sewing needle and matching thread, sew snap on to heart and body being careful to make sure the snap parts line up. yarn ball
