Garden Walk Cape

This light and airy cape will be the accessory for any outfit. By using the sock yarn, it will create a beautiful drape, and by only having 20 rows, you will find yourself making one in every color!

Skill Level: Intermediate

Size: 14” top to bottom x 50” at widest point at bottom

Gauge: 16 sts and 8 rows = 4” [10 cm] in dc

Materials

Yarn:

Fine weight yarn Cascade Heritage 150 (75% Merino SW Wool, 25% Nylon; 492 yards [450 meters]/150 grams): 5695 Radiant Orchid, 1 skein

Hook: I/9 (5.5 mm)

Notions: Sewing thread and needle, 1 medium button

Pattern Notes

The cape is worked top down in rows.

Special Stitch

Double Treble (dbtr)

Yo 4 times, insert hook in next st, yo, pull back through, *yo, pull through first 2 loops on hook; rep from * until st is completed.

Pattern

Ch 97.

Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across – 96 sts.

Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), turn, dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, * dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st; rep from * across – 120 sts.

Row 3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across – 120 sts.

Row 4: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st across – 120 sts.

Rows 5-9: Rep Rows 3-4, ending on Row 3.

Row 10: Ch 3, turn, dc in next 7 sts, *dc in next 7 sts, 2 dc in next st; rep from * across – 134 sts.

Row 11: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.

Row 12: Ch 4, turn, dbtr in each st across.

Row 13: Ch 5 (counts as dbtr), *sk 1 st, (dbtr, ch 1, dbtr) in next st, sk 2 sts, (dbtr, ch 1, dbtr) in next ch-1 sp; rep from * to last 2 sts, sk 1 st, dbtr in last st.

Rows 14-20: Ch 5 (counts as dbtr), *sk 1 st, (dbtr, ch 1, dbtr) in next ch-1 sp, sk 2 sts, (dbtr, ch 1, dbtr) in next ch-1 sp; rep from * to last 2 sts, sk 1 st, dbtr in last st.

Row 21: Ch 3, turn, dc in each st and ch sp across.

Fasten off. yarn ball

  • This is such a nice project. As I look at it I see that it would be perfect for me to make fr my mother who s elderly. She has problems and pain in her right arm. This could help keep that arm warm and help her cradle it in place. The blue color is beautiful in the model photo. I think that buttons and other accessories can change the appearance with colors making this ideal to be done more than once for one person.
