Cabled Leg Warmers

Create not only a beautifully textured pair of leg warmers that would be a great accessory to wear on those chillier days, but also learn a new crochet technique, the cable stitch, in the process! These leg warmers each feature a cable running down the front and back, as well as buttons along the side that can be buttoned up securely for the perfect fit.

Gauge: 4 sts and 4 rows = 1” (2.5cm) in sc.

Materials

Yarn:

Medium weight yarn Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran (55% Merino Wool, 33% Acrylic, 12% Cashmere; 98 yards [90 meters]/50 grams): 603 Baby Pink, 5 (5) balls.

Hook: UK size 2 (7 mm)

Notions: Tapestry needle; ten ¾” (1.9 cm) buttons

Abbreviations

st(s) – stitch(es)

ch – chain stitch

sl st – slip stitch

sc – single crochet

fpdc – front post double crochet

fptr – front post triple crochet

Special Stitches

Front post double crochet (fpdc)

Yarn over, insert your hook under the post of the next stitch. Yarn over, draw up a loop (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through 2 loops on your hook (2 loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through the last 2 loops on your hook.

Front post triple crochet (fptr)

Yarn over twice, insert your hook under the post of the next stitch. Yarn over, draw up a loop (4 loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through 2 loops on your hook (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through 2 loops on your hook (2 loops on hook). Yarn over, draw through the last 2 loops on your hook.

Cable Stitch

Sk 3 sts, fptr in next 3 sts, going back to the skipped sts, fptr in first skipped st, then the 2nd, and then the 3rd st (cable cross completed).

Fold each leg warmer in half (length wise), then overlap the edge of one side of each leg warmer by 0.6″ / [1.5 cm], making sure the buttonholes edge is on the top. Sew 1 button beneath each buttonhole. yarn ball
